The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

Today’s haiku is best understood as an inducement to an Anatolian shepherd to rouse himself to the correct side during the crusades.
”Wake Up, Turk!”
Invoke heaven, watch
your flock, affirm the psalms: you
too may prophesy.

In HS I led three lives:Honors classes, Sports and I was a card carrying member of a gang called "The Wall"
Our MOTTO*: The Wall ******* All
OMK that haiku really works. Taken from the other side of the Crusades
Oh, btw, they made a movie of my life: The Breakfast Club. And the 4th character: Crazy? That fit me too
But I certainly wasn't rich

Phew! I just squeaked by. Who knew there were that many 5 letter words starting with _ _ _ especially when all the other vowels (and Y) are eliminated.

No Religion!
ReplyDeleteThe priest needed someone
To watch over his flock.
“Time off work” was what the doctor ordered.
But he feared a tyrant would stomp over his parish.
The answer was clear:
He would invoke the 1st Amendment
And affirm freedom of religion.
I got lucky and doubled up on the vowel on #2 which gave me the last letter. Wordle likes to use the sane letter twice, especially vowrls(c. MOTTO)

"Family Wedding"
ReplyDeleteThe entire family did flock
to watch the couple get married on the dock.
The father invoked a well-deserved perk
and on the day of the wedding took off work.
After they all did the wedding watch
their family-closeness went up a notch.
Now everyone is ready to affirm
this lovely relationship for the long term.
Nice work on Wordle WC. Yes, they have been using a lot of double letters lately.
ReplyDeleteOMK- great haiku! So concise, but evocative.
Misty- lovely wedding poem. We can only hope for the same happiness for Chet and Nora.
Took a little work, but I got it! Woohoo!

ReplyDeleteMy wife got an eagle too—because she has heard me talk about the show.
Thanks, guys, for your notes on my haiku. Much appreciated.
Misty, your poem we did enjoy,
for the family-fun you did employ.
Your original take, CEh!
on the Constitution gave me pause!
But I think I figured it out—
as your priest sought
freedom from religion!
Yes?
You certainly have inhabited multiple selves, WC,
with Hollywood capturing only some of them.
Your fans here know you too as poet and sports buff,
as well as AA expert.
If you’re at all like me, you’re probably asking,
“What’s next?!”

, what a clever Anatolian command! Great haiku!
ReplyDeleteCanadianEh!, so happy to see your priest solved his dilemma.
Wilbur, you've now got me wanting to see 'The Breakfast Club' again.
Ol' Man Keith, don't know how your name got erased on that first line, but that first message was meant for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Misty.
ReplyDeleteIf you get part of the bold code marks wrong, the "coded" name just drops out.
You can always check it with Preview.

OMK- maybe this Canadian should not have invoked your 1st Amendment LOL. I was thinking of freedom of religion in the sense that the tyrant should not run roughshod over the beliefs of the flock while the priest was away. But I see your point that the priest needed a break (freedom) from religion.
ReplyDelete[Chet has met with his sponsor, Neal]
ReplyDelete(Neal says)
"Let me just affirm what you've said about this far, flung idea I've heard.
Your idea of the wedding was to take a day off work to meet your lovebird.
The clerk would invoke his power to wed and with a shrug and a kiss
You grab a medium rate motel for the night and begin a life of wedded bliss"
Your intentions were good as Pastor Ed often points out to his flock
Then something happened to upset these plans, someone talked
Lois's Aunt Nora was watching her niece and thought of a better idea
Called up uncle Charles and proceeded to whisper into his waiting ear
WC
I've got Friday added to Thursday
DeleteWho can point out the J's and the riddle-solution?
Wilbur, looks to me as though Neal both "affirms" and mentions "take off work."
ReplyDeleteThe clerk does "invoke," and Aunt Nora does "watch" and Pastor Ed has a "flock."
Did I point them all out correctly?
No hint implied.
