Captain Kirk of the Enterprise
ReplyDeleteFaced down planets of space bad-guys.
Then Ferengi Quark,
For a lark,
Took their latinum as his prize!
Well, Owen, it looks like I found the way to change the publication date. I fiddled with several possible solutions, so I can’t say I’m sure which one did the trick.
ReplyDeleteWe’ll just have to see if I can repeat it tonight.
FLN, Misty ~ I’m sorry, but I can’t buy your explanation—because you have shown more than once that you can handle Wordle by yourself as well as anyone here!
And anyway, if you really want a hint, both WC + CEh! leave excellent hints every day. Owen leaves clues too!
Please understand: I was happy to post hints when I thought you really needed them, but when I saw you solving some in 3 and 4 attempts, I just thought, Whew! That relieves me of having to do them every night.
I just don’t find them as challenging as others do. Now I will do them occasionally but not if I stumble across an internet hint and not on a routine basis.
FLN, Wilbur ~ Wow again! More entries from Lois & Chet. They are both quite eloquent—on the tale of their original romantic encounter AND, here especially, on the value of AA in their lives.
They each give powerful witness, contrasting their new lives of love and giving with the “fraudulent” existences they had before.
I’m sure I am not your only reader who is absolutely happy for them.
~ OMK

I had to go back to Wordle to find Owen's "hint". Good one.

Today’s Jumble haiku:
ReplyDelete(Do not fall for the pandemic hoax!
Please avoid so-called germ traps!)
“Kind((ly) Watch (out; get) Off It! ”
The outbreak width of
this fraud rivals the vile “I-
conic Cactus Blitz”!
~ OMK
"Lauded Lawyer"
ReplyDeleteThe attorney detected a fraud.
a discovery many did laud.
His field had considerable width,
this was a fact, and not a myth.
His reputation soon caught wind
and the number of his clients spinned,
and although he thought it ironic,
his company became iconic.
( P.S. A number grateful that he "tracked us"
rewarded him with a cactus.)
Cactus Pete
ReplyDeleteHis legend is iconic!
But it is ironic
That a quirk of history
(trying to eliminate gambling fraud in casinos
Which led to their banning in Idaho)
Caused him to search the length and width of Nevada.
He caught wind of a good spot,
And hit the Jackpot!
LOL, today it is Misty that I matched - with iconic and ironic.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful your lawyer’s job. But I’m not sure about that cactus reward.
But OTOH, it may be better than OMK’s Cactus Blitz!
WC- I echo OMK’s praise for last evening’s entry about Lois and Chet.
Yes Wordle par 4 today. Let’s see if Misty can get it in less with our hints.
Your lawyerly study today is surely one of your most brilliant efforts. You know I am not a fan of couplet-after-couplet, but today you used that sing-songy format to full advantage!
ReplyDeleteBy giving us comedy in your rhymes, you enticed this reader to enjoy going along with your jingly effect, especially in such neat echoes as wind/spinned and ironic/iconic.
Your PostScript served as an unexpected capper. Thanks for “Lauded Lawyer.”
Your “Cactus Pete,” CEh!, was no doubt bitten by that ol’ gambling bug. You have us picturing him searching the American West before he found his jackpot spot.
I was wondering why he didn’t venture up into Alberta, since he was obviously trying to find his fortune in classic cowboy country.
But I was glad for his sake that he finally struck it rich.
~ OMK
OMK- I was searching for a way to include Cactus today. Cactus Pete “popped up” in my head (LOL re today’s CW) and I LIUed. I found Cactus Pete Piersanti and the info that I used as a base for my offering. He really was instrumental in founding in Jackpot Nevada.
ReplyDeletehttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cactus_Pete_Piersanti
I thought that Cactus Pete might be an actual Casino entrepreneur. Ironic that two iconic gambling venues opened just South of Massachusetts border: Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun
ReplyDeleteI see Massachusetts has legalized finally
Florida used a Tribal exception to legalize gambling called Seminole
BTW, now that MLB endorses and profits from gambling how about letting Shoeless Joe and Luckless Pete into HoF
WC
Misty, FLN, thank you for complimenting my C&L. Btw, did you search for J-words? To find Wednesday you'd have to use imagination
ReplyDeleteAs in
"I was living a "fraudulent" life traveling the "width" of the state
Before I ever caught wind of a program to change my sorry slate"
And the final lines for ICONIC and CACTUS

Woohoo! Thank you all for the hints--a huge help.
I guess it's eccentric of me to pose that kind of riddle. Outre even , slightly outlandish and unexpected to use multi-syllables where five letters would suffice

Oops, so much for extra hints. Not hard to guess QUIRK(y) around here
ReplyDeleteMy apology, Ol' Man Keith, and thank you for your comment on my Wordle difficulties. From now on I'll do my best to just consider everyone's possible clues here and there, if there are any, or, if not, just take my best chance. I'll do my best to be a little braver in the future.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you all, also Owen and Wilbur for your great help. So glad you caught wind of a helpful program, Wilbur.
OMK, your "cactus blitz" made me laugh.
And Canadian, so glad Cactus Pete was able to ban Idaho gambling frauds. That really does make him an iconic legend, doesn't it?
Glad you liked my Iconic Blitz, Misty!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine it being equally funny--
if it were not composed of Monster Cacti!!
(They are the worst.)

CEh! ~ I learned of Alberta's cattleman legacy years ago, when our Dad got me a 16 mm projector for Xmas, and it came with some short silent movie reels.
ReplyDeleteOne of the movies was entitled "Calgary Stampede." It showed several riding and roping events from that famous rodeo. Whoopie!
Until then, I had no idea Canada had a West. Like many Americans (U.S. version), I thought Canada was only North and East.
I was maybe ten years old.
Live & learn, eh?
