  1. Today’s Jumble haiku:
(The detective was an LGBT leader, but found that his personal liberation did not prevent harassment from colleagues.
Unfortunately, he could only reduce his misery by doubling down on the petty criminals he arrested.
The Angst of his struggles, from…)

    ”Gay to Woe…”
(was only relieved by his motto:)

    “It’s not enough to
grind crooks down. You must alloy
    them into pewter!”

  2. He hunched and crunched thru the snow.
Ahead, the inn that was his goal.
    He'd not besmirch
    The warming hearth
That calmed the disorder in his soul.

  4. The Wordle was difficult today but I see that OMK had his thinking cap on! And Owen has jumbled the W and hidden it in the second line. WC, did you have a spotted horse in guess two or three?

  5. The mood of the fans changes as the novice player surprises them with a home run at the last minute.

    Woe to Gay

Ninth inning of a grinding game
    With pennant loss in sight.
    At bat their heroic rookie
    Swung with all his might.
    “Enough of this” thought he,
    “I’ll make myself a name.
The pewter trophy we will raise
    My talent fans will praise”.

  6. LOL, OMK, we both saw the Spooner, but used it differently in our title. I flirted with the LGBT meaning of GAY, but the W sent me to the baseball game.
I smiled at your “alloy them into pewter”.
    Let’s see what Misty creates.

  7. "Retiring"

    The crook was a woman
    who liked to cook,
    spending time to grind
    recipes for her cookbook.
She now uses a bowl of pewter,
    provided by her suitor.

    But cooking can be tough
and she feels she's done enough.
So after her choices she did weigh
she decided she'd call it a day.
But before her retirement she did take,
she baked her suitor a chocolate cake.

  8. Hard to resist that Spooner, eh, CEh!
My detective and your heroic rookie found motivation in striving for the pewter!
Both made their name amid a tough crowd.
Misty ~ Your moll’s kitchen provided a different scene.
I was very happy to read your final couplet.
Until then, I worried for her suitor. He apparently had his own motive for giving her that pewter bowl.
    Yum.

  9. A comforting verse, Owen;
even though your disordered guy hasn't reached it yet,
his goal is palpable to readers.

  10. Ah, Misty was cooking up a great story about a crook. That pewter bowl would be heavy on the counter, and be careful re iron absorption from the bowl! Or was there malice in her baking that cake for her suitor? And grinding recipes? Hmm?!

  11. Lovely verse, Owen, about a journey coming to a good end.

My goodness, Ol' Man Keith, a surprisingly tough treatment for that crook, who may well have deserved it, but could possibly have been given a second chance and reformed? A choice that should be well weighed, I think.

CanadianEh!, so glad that crook is now a heroic rookie! Reform is a good thing, isn't it?

And now, I should probably take a deep breath and try today's Wordle. Wish me luck.

  12. The latest from the crime front is that my guy was stopped & prevented from further street alchemy by his partner.
His department regulations include a “duty to intervene,” requiring police to step in when they see other cops using “unnecessary force.”
Accused of being prejudiced, the partner swears the detective’s Gayness had nothing to do with stopping him. “I’ve had enough,” he said. “We just see too much pewter out on the street!”

Misty ~ I hope this outcome restores your faith in human nature. The partner ‘s intervention helped this detective’s victim to get aid and social services.
EMTs arrived in time to apply reverse alchemy & return him to base metals.
