ReplyDeleteToday’s Jumble haiku:
(The trained nocturnal mammal would only eat soft white blobs of sour milk while positioned in his little high chair.
His keeper would never go riding his small donkey until after feeding time at the…)
”Bat Curd Seat”
The burro’s itchy
saddle brought digests, or whole
stanzas, of curses.

Nice one OMK but is it the ass cursing or the ass on top?
Then again Balaam famously cursed his ass and flailed away But he couldn't get him to make one step more
I always say "When an ass speaks, listen, it might save yours"

Our poet stops at one verse today. You repeat for the second, and imagine the highest degree of discomfort for the third.
ReplyDeleteThat Can’t Beat Third
He scratched and flailed,
So itchy that he failed
To note his burro’s fleas
Were making him sneeze.
But I digress - it got worse
Second stanza same as the first.
OMK and WC- I smiled at the image of the burro in a chair, and the Balaam comments. I echo WC in asking who is creating the stanzas?
ReplyDeleteOMK- I thought about the same title (great Spooner) but couldn’t make it work with my poem. I had to create a weird backstory to explain my awkward title.
Let’s see what kind of fun Misty creates with today’s words.

ReplyDelete"Pesty Poem"
ReplyDeleteRiding the burro
was itchy but neat,
and though it made her brow furrow
Beth enjoyed the rare seat.
It inspired her to compose a stanza,
hard to digest as if composed by a nerd.
But it still turned out to be a bonanza
that her friends happily preferred.
CEh! ~ It wasn’t the burro in the chair.
ReplyDeleteHe didn’t get saddled till the “nocturnal mammal”—the bat—ate his fill.
It was a varied menagerie.
~ OMK
No, seriously, if you think your backstory was weird…
ReplyDeleteI had to go some distance, CEh, to create the daily sequence for my burro ride.
Balaam’s ass had an angel; yours had fleas. Mine had nothing but but a batty-minded rider & an uncomfortable saddle that made him cuss.
Misty’s Beth had an itchy one too, but was apparently able to overcome the signals from her “rare seat.”
Her stanza, it seems, was much more seemly than mine.

I don't know how you do it, Ol' Man Keith, but there they were once again: all four of those complicated Jumble words plus the crazy solution worked cleverly into your morning haiku!
ReplyDeleteWonderful--many thanks!
Wish I had time to do the Wordle today, but am glad you did it in just three tries, Wilbur, along with some discussion about that small donkey.
Always love the way you play the solution into your title, Canadian, followed by your always delightful verse. And nice that you also digressed.
Thank you, everybody, for a fun morning.
FLN, CEh!
ReplyDeleteForgot to mention that I agree entirely with your concluding peroration of yesternight.
Too many poor eating habits & self-abusive customs are swept under the carpet these days so as not to offend (“fat-shame”) or compromise commercial interests (“We have the Meats”).
It is no surprise that life expectancy in the States recently took its first downturn in decades.
I wonder how Canada is faring…?
~ OMK
I didn’t bother flailing at the W today.
ReplyDeleteI compliment WC for solving in three—and CEh as well (in five), because this was an ultra-difficult one.
But I wouldn’t post mine, as this was one that showed its answer almost everywhere on the web.
It is my running complaint with Wordle, that they can’t prevent daily postings of the answer.
It is hard NOT to see answers, and even harder to UNsee them!
~ OMK
OMK - I misread your backstory and was concentrating on WC’s talking about the ass.
ReplyDeleteAnd your title does make better sense now.
Thanks for your kind comments Misty. I did enjoy your pesto poem today. Bonanza was a great rhyme with stanza!
ReplyDeleteOMK- FLN- I suspect that Canadian life expectancies are trending downward also.
Re Wordle- I have bookmarked the NYT Wordle site and I go there immediately before I do any other Googling. Then I post here (without looking at your haiku since I haven’t done the Jumble).
CanadianEh! ~ I didn’t for a moment think you, or any Jumble colleague, would post without acknowledging seeing a hint or answer. But I know it requires extra precautions to avoid seeing such “helps.”
ReplyDeleteThe maneuvers involved can easily ruin the fun—for me, certainly.
