  1. Today’s Jumble haiku:
(Old Peter has seen better days. His senses are in decline, and maybe that’s why when he sneaks a midnight snack, he won’t detect that sweet Freon….)

    ”He’s Been His best”

    Pete’s snuck a nibble,
but the old fridge issues fumes,
    so he’ll soon sicken.

  3. Our team will win, don't you worry!
See, on the field, how they rush and scurry!
    Hooray, Huzzah!
    Hooray, Hoorah!
Squirrels versus Chipmunks, furry versus furry!

  4. "Forgiveness"

    The issue created a quibble
when the kid snuck in the inn for a nibble,
and ate a piece of old chicken
    that quickly did him sicken.

    The business was a mess,
but the boy did his sin confess.
    And only a year later,
the inn hired him as a waiter.

  5. Annie snuck into the pantry, the cookie jar to find,
Just to snag one cookie. From a bunch that would be fine.
Her Mama wouldn't notice nineteen 'stead of twenty.
Tho she would like more, one cookie should be plenty.

Alas there was an issue with the cookie jar so round.
Inside there was a single cookie to be found!
It sickened he to think that her sneak had been wasted,
But she daren't nibble it, no matter how it tasted.

Reluctantly, Annie put the jar back on the shelf.
Rewarded only by her control of herself.
Mama would refill the jar, so maybe after dinner
She could try again, and next time be a winner!

Mama's toll-house cookies are the bestest.
She does a business selling when they're freshest.

  6. Interesting that everybody so far (myself, Owen & Misty) went with characters (Pete, Annie, and "the kid") sneaking a snack. The S-word is hard to get around.
But they all also paid a price for their infraction.
Nobody seems to get away with anything...

I guess we are in the "Crime Doe Not Pay--Misdemeanor Div." today.

  7. OMK, you're right--all our kids in trouble today. Hope poor Pete recovered from that Freon mishap.

And, Owen, Annie was a good girl, not taking that last cookie. Hope her mother gave her several cookies as a reward after dinner.

Well, I wish you all a good dinner tonight, and some great cookies for dessert! You, too,
    CanadianEh! and Wilbur.

  8. Serves Pete right, I guess. He shoulda replaced that old fridge.
I don’t believe Freon has been allowed for 30 years, maybe longer.
Safe refrigerants like Forane & EcoFluor are in use now. Also thermoelectric cooling (solid state, cold metal) in some ice boxes.
I recall literal ice boxes. Cooled by a truly safe method—a huge cube of ice.
Remember how we used to get ice?
When the big cube melted down, we would stick a diamond-shaped sign featuring the word ICE in a front window. The Iceman would spot it, stop his truck, and use his big calipers to sling a new block of ice over his shoulder. (He had a large rubber mat fitted to his shoulder—to prevent frostbite, I suppose.)

He would then drip it all the way down our hallway to the empty ice box on the back porch.
    Voila!

  9. The reaction of angry pet owners is sue the culprit; soon the pet food company will not
    Be in Business

The puppy sickened by a nibble
    Of contaminated kibble
    Snuck behind the couch
    To whimper over the ouch.
    His sad eyes were blurry,
Get to the vet - and hurry.

  10. I’m late to the party today.
Owen has done his usual great job with the W, using rhymes and synonyms.

OMK- how right you are about our same bent with the J words - but instead of a human, I had a sweet puppy who was sickened not by his own mischief, but by a bad batch of dog food.
    Hopefully everyone recovers.
Thanks to all of you for the fun.

OMK- What a memory of the icebox and delivery man. Thanks for the story.
