She named her pet Pepper the Peeve.
He got in and out with such ease!
Her back yard couldn't hold him,
Heck, Scotland Yard wouldn't hold him!

Once she tried an invisible fence.
Pepper built up his own defense!
He paid a mole top kibble dollar
For an underground "neutered" collar!

She'd been told about coyote urine
With powers of animal deterrence.
But after her failed tussle to get some scent,
Pepper brought her a bottle of coyote essence!

It seemed there was no chance or event
Would make Peeve cease breaching his fence!
When asked what dog breed was so adapt,
She replied, "He's a Alley Tom Cat!"

It's really good to see you back in force, Owen, at least on the jumble page.
Pepper the Peeve has a fine chronicler. His feline frolics make for an entertaining read, thanks to his reliable narrator!

I know it's not an obvious connection, but today's solution reminds me of my Scuba diving days and, specifically, how the neoprene would cling to my limbs.
After a cold water dive, it was positively heaven to lie back on the sun-warm deck and strip off one wet sleeve after the other, then unzip the torso and just soak up the SoCal sun...

Her vain attempts to get Peeve to cease her antics
Was driving the owner positively frantic

Just helping out with a word that was missing.

I just made a final post to 8/13. Also...
I see Owen added the solution to Tuesday today.

Fortunately, today was easy as I had no paper to jot letters down. But the Riddle-Solution was so apparent that it gave me #4 by knowing where the missing letters were.

WC: I think you'll find the word you thought I missed on the 3rd from the last line of the poem.

Easy jumble today.

Enjoyed the poem, but Owen, I don't think cats like collars, do they?

Duh, there it was. In plane sight. And speaking of 8/13, another reference cropped up: SEQUEL. My little poem was a prequel of sorts to yours except Mittens was now Peeve.

Owen, how wonderful to see you back in terrific poetry mode today. I loved your crossword poems with so many of the puzzle words in them, and now your Jumble poem with all the Jumble words and the solution. I breezed through this Jumble this morning, even though I'm in a hurry.
Love the cartoon with the lady and her dog sign, and the window showing us her sofa and lamp in the living room. Delightful words, cartoon, and solution! Have a good day everybody!

Interesting question, Sandy--whether cats like collars....

We had cats at home when I was a kid. Siamese and some strays. We collared them all. Some with flea collars.
Maybe we should have asked them.

Sandy, of course the whole point of the poem was the misdirection that Pepper was a dog. But yes, cats do wear collar and leash. My condo only allows them outside that way.

An well, maybe that's why something happened to every cat I had growing up. No collars!
