We have three dogs, a rescued Yorkie named Louie, a Golden Retriever named Maggie, and a Chihuahua mix (part Jack Russell we think) named Nacho.
We picked up Nacho at the County Pound. He was a tough choice to make, as it seemed 2 out of every 3 pound dogs were Chihuahuas. But he seemed particularly sprightly, and the attendant said he was high spirited and a real "kennel gem." That testimony, plus his deep brown soulful eyes with their long lashes, convinced us.
As we were finishing his paper work and paying his fees, we were informed that Nacho had been returned to the pound twice! That made us a little nervous--but also told us it was imperative that he get a lasting home.
That was 8 years ago. Our menagerie has been a constant delight ever since.

The sloth
Is never wroth.
Always placid,
Thoughts are tacit.
Who can detect
In the depths
Of their mind
What's to find?
In fine fettle
Would they peddle
Ideals of peace
To at least
Match the pace
Of their race
To find leaves
That will appease?

Very good to see that you feel up to a poem today, Owen. I hope your recovery is continuing.

The jumble was pretty easy, with the clues being obvious for me and the solution's second word as well, leaving the first word easily decipherable. I enjoyed this pun a lot.

What a wonderful dog story, Ol'Man Keith, and how wonderful that you adopted the sweet Nacho. I'll have to tell you my dachshund story when I have a little more time this afternoon.

Loved your trim long poem, Owen--nice to see you back in great form, and hope you're feeling better today.

I sailed through this Jumble, getting all four words quickly and the second solution word right away, which--as Sandyanon noted--made the first one easy. And loved the cartoon drawing with the complicated bicycle scene!

Ol'Man Keith, I met my husband Rowland when I became Chair of the Personnel Committee and he was Vice Chair, and after a meeting one day he happened to mention that he was single and had a dachshund. I couldn't believe it and blurted out, "Hey, I'm single and have a dachshund too." His was named Sandy and mine was named Betsy, and after the meeting I sent him a picture of me and Betsy to prove that I didn't just make her up during our conversation. Not too long later I invited him to bring Sandy to my house and our dachshunds met, and two and a half years later we got married, and our dachshunds, Sandy and Betsy were "bride-dogs" at our wedding. They are wearing little wreaths around their necks on our wedding pictures. We lost them both when they were about 15, and then got "Misty" (yes, that's where I got my blog name) and Dusty. A coyote got Misty four years ago, but Dusty is now 16 and in great shape. I lost Rowland four years ago also, so it's a blessing to still have our Dusty.

End of long dachshund story.

What a great tale of matching dachshunds, Misty! It could be the opening scene of a RomCom romp!
Thank you for sharing that with me/ with us. I'm glad your current Dusty is doing so well, but saddened to know the coyote got your little Misty.
We worry about the coyote threat too, esp. for our two littler guys. We have a lot of space for them to run inside our walled grounds, but we've been reading lately how high some coyotes can leap. Now we won't let them out into the back yard at night w/o one of us escorting them.
I hope Dusty enjoys all these senior years--and sets longevity records!
