The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

His sibling didn't realize he'd been mocking her, nor that he'd demanded more work than he ought.
When told these two truths, she had a hard time accepting them, and when it came to the foreman's apology,...

"Sis Doubted!"
"But you'd be right to chide us, Miss.
This outfit took undue advantage of you.
It was callous of us to take the piss,
and stick you with more jobs than were your due."

"Justice?"

When Sue decided to sue,
he claimed her charges were undue.
She argued the guard gave her a callus
the day she visited the palace.
But he said all he did was chide,
and that she simply lied.
In the end the jury discounted
the argument Susan had mounted:
there was no evidence of an injury
that would have convinced the jury.
Still, the guard worked for an outfit
that found him unfit, so he quit.
In the end, was justice served?
Who knows, when things are not unreserved.

You'd think it would work in her favor, but perhaps it is a curse--for poor Sue to be named for her court action.
It is suggestive of a certain kind of karma. Maybe she was predestined (redundant?) to sue. Hmmm?
On that theme, yes, justice was certainly served--in that the accused guard was relieved of his position for some other cause.
Isn't that the very definition of karma?

Assuming, of course that he was guilty and Sue was telling the truth.
We weren't there, were we? I agree, in the age of "MeToo," we must take Sue's accusation seriously!
But still, I gather there were no witnesses.

That's why karma is such a good thing. Heheheh...

Hbdy to our little jumble blog. I mentioned at CC The coincidence of LOIS and clue for SMAUG.

Fln, omg, OMK spotted it immediately. Ah the perils of poetic rhyming. How about

We looked down on you sober folk we lived a life apart
Backwards thinking was my mien, which was horse which was cart."

I am way behind because lost my weekly insert so I have to solve online. Today we went to an auction looking for a riding mower. Got entangled with another bidder and bought too high. Plus 15% auction fee = no real bargain. C-Moe*'s write-up and links, though excellent, took a lot of time..

I came here and J was solved.. Nice riddle-solution. The J's were easy.

* Ultimate irony. C-Moe was one of the J talkers which prompted Owen to build our own blog. And a poet in his own right.

Yes, the Lois story is not so unusual in the halls. The gory details are more often omitted. She wants to come clean with Chet. I'm going to borrow from a few friends I had who shared some stuff in my next installment. Which. BTW, I'd better get working on

But first...

[Chet interrups]

"Nothing you can tell me lowers the high esteem you hold in my heart
I'd never chide nor be callous, for you, Lois, gave me a fresh start
Due to you, unlooked and unhoped for I found the only outfit
That could have restored me to sanity and built a life bit by bit

I owe you so much , your love and kindness has amounted
To a new world for me and all you've done cannot be discounted

So, Wilbur, I should understand that Chet came to AA because of Lois?? I hadn't gathered that from previous episodes; thought they met due to AA. Did I miss something?

Sandy,
In chapter 2 , Lois, the girl with the 'bouffant hairdo ' drinking ginger ale invited/coaxed Chet to come with her to an AA meeting.

She had to keep her distance for awhile but they've become a couple. This new happy life 1. Started with the invite
2. Once the attraction was mutual it doubled again.

I remember I won a big bet on the Yankees when Reggie Jackson hit 3 homeruns. A young fella sold me his vw for $100. When I got sober the car took me to IT School and my new job.

If Reggie has a hangnail, the Yankees lose, none of the above happens

Wilbur, can you point me to Chapter two? I don't remember the date, and I'd like to reread it.

, I love the slow but sturdy and hopeful way the Chet and Lois romance is proceeding.

And thank you for the nice comments, OMK. Your questions always make me wish we had a week to develop the narrative complexities of each puzzle, but we can't do that with a new Jumble to contend with every day.

But I am so happy we have our small, but devoted, Jumble corner, and thank you for reminding us of our happy anniversary, Owen. Yay. How lucky we are to have our small, smart, kind, clever, inventive, delightful, group. I could go on and on.

With much affection, Misty.

Yes, that works for me, Wilbur.
Your new couplet is really very, very good.
I think it often happens that way--that when we find ourselves in a verbal bind, or even making an awkward mistake, the correction ends up being far BETTER than we would have had, if we had it right in the first place.
Something about how much longer it's been brewing inside...

Your new poem shows tons of respect that Chet feels for Lois, all well expressed, surprisingly so, as it introduces a tone of such awe as I never expected.
It's fine to surprise us, but it feels a little outsized for human interaction. But maybe this is not uncommon for folk in AA, flowing from the gratitude they feel on being healthy again.
Or maybe you're purposely injecting a new note into the relationship.
We shall see.
