|| upper, pious, engulf, locate, (the old) college "tri". || frosty, advent, cashew, degree, equity, hiccup, scratched (the) surface.

The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Sandy! DON'T READ THIS!
(Hint-hint-hint...) I'm sure you already know the solution couldn't have anything to do with the old Knowledge Guy! Nor the Haulage Spy...

The day had come for St. Edmund's,
A new regime was at hand.
The new headmaster was installing,
The ceremony was to be grand!

Upperclassmen had formed a chorus
To sing with appropriate chants.
The beadle, a pious old pastor,
Had a prayer prepared in advance.

To cap the immemorial ritual,
Allegedly founded by Socrates
Thrice the college cheer would engulf
The tri-sided quad of Saint E's.

They'd bring out the dusty old charter,
With the dust that made everyone sneeze!
Gesundheit! Gesundheit! Gesundheit!
The cheer would resound from the eaves!

The landings had gone well, the quonsets were in place.
The colonists were flourishing after months in space.
The air was thin and frigid, outer surfaces were frosty,
But scratchings gave them moisture to boil for their coffee!

The advent of the humans on the sterile plains of Mars
Meant life could venture out, perhaps some day to the stars!
Meanwhile plants were planted, harvests anticipated.
Hybrid crops like cashew-peanuts, beets all variegated!

The colonists were hardy, pioneering took much effort.
But sweat-equity would pay for them to win this desert.
The way would not be smooth, hiccups would be plenty.
But frontiers are the hallmarks of peripatetic humanity.

Two outstanding poems today! Both brilliant--the first crisp, funny, & smart, the second witty & inspirational.
Yes to mankind as the adaptive, aspirational species.
Cockroaches may outlast us, but they'll never get anywhere on their own.

I'm not looking at anything yet. Finished the j4 in double quick time, but the j6 solution has so far defeated me, so I'm still working on it.
OMK, it's difficult to convey accurate intentions sometimes in writing, but I saw your instruction to me as sarcasm, and if that's correct, I want to say that I didn't in any way mean to offend you, and I hope you don't think me rude, because I was just trying to be honest.

Sandy, that's just OMK having some chuckles. Now for IRONY* Misty is the one whosw very clever at disquised hints. Mine, when I tried were enigmatic, esoteric and botderline idiotic .

Great poetry today . I solved the 4*4 in my head. I'd taken a quick stab at the 6*6 and recalled EQUITY.
