Alice and Leia were acting out their sillies,
High-spirited together, a pair of fine fillies!
Alice almost forgot that she had a date,
An un-birthday party with her tea-party mates!

Leia asked about bringing a gift to share,
A package wrapped in twine with care.
But Alice assured her the Hatter and Hare
Would be delighted just to have her there!

The party had started before they showed up.
The dormouse already dozed in his teacup.
A plug-in hot plate they found mystifying.
Hatter assured them 'twould be electri-frying!

Great. More adventures in Wonderland.

The Riddle-Solution and#1,2,3 came instantly. I had to mull over#4. Or did I stew. No I St---ed over it.

And... To get a head start on OMK: The pond denizens elected a dark horse as Mayor. The frogs cried " "EEL ELECT? TRIFLING candidate".

Love the poem--and the poet! What a sweet team, Alice & Leia...

Today's solution, a simple one-word gerund, seems to have inspired etymologists Owen & Wilbur. I am late to the game & must play catch-up:
The art of landscaping includes many secrets, none more mysterious than the illusion created when two or three elms or pines can be lain along a curve in the earth to appear as if they are tens or scores more than they actually are. In the trade this is known as tree-effect lying, a trick mastered by only the most practiced hands.

Really enjoying the Alice and Leia story. Seems to be leading to another chapter. I wonder if Alice will become involved in Star Wars directly. I can imagine her in outer space.

The jumble clues were straightforward, and once all the letters were available, that long solution was obvious. It was kind of obvious anyway.

I hope you're well, Owen. I'll check back before I nod off...

Shockwave and Uclick are still stuck on Sunday's puzzle, and I'd gone to sleep for the night before USAToday turned over to Wedsenday's puzzle. I've just put up the blank, and am going to work the cw while waiting for a poem inspiration.
