My uncle is an Uber driver,
He says he likes the job.
He meets a lot of folks, divers,
To converse and hobnob.

The job is sometimes lonely
With a patron who is terse,
Tho some are loutish boozy,
And that is even worse.

A girl who bailed from a date,
And cried and cried and cried.
Now he is set to anticipate,
A pouch of tissues at his side.

He says he mimics taxi-men
But his hours are his to keep.
I wonder at the future then,
Are cab hacks obsolete?

Your poetic question is apt. Your wondering is shared by all. I have yet to try an Uber, but it may lie in my future.

Just look at that cartoon face! It is far too honest for its owner's good.
I believe he tried bunco once, but alas! it was no use.

It could have been worse. It could have been his Aunt. I drove limo and shuttle after retiring. I had all kinds as Owen alludes to.
.

The first thing I got was the riddle. Then a little thinking to unravel the two 6's

LOL, Wilbur.

Me, I found the clues pretty easy, and once with all the letters, so was the solution.
Clever pun.

The poem really grabbed my interest. It's from the driver's point of view for sure, but as a rider, I've always been a bit too nervous about Uber or Lyft to use them. Possibly taxis aren't any safer, but they are more familiar. Uber is in trouble in London, I've read.

I feel the same, Sandy. I believe in taxis because I never really feel alone with the driver. The cab companies keep logs & so know which driver is taking me (even if they don't always know my name) from point A to point B.
Maybe the Uber dispatchers have similar info, but I don't know that.

Actually, Uber keeps constant contact.
The London cab establishment would naturally fight like hell to squelch Uber.

They were union urganized with apprentice level and journeyman etc with route testing...

Of course GPS made it all moot. Taxis still take cash. Limos pretty much match taxi fares.

I've taken one Uber from Providence to southern Mass
