The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

TWO POEMS
A Quotation
"I prefer heroes who don't get captured.
If he'd shown some effort maybe to hide
or even if he croaked or went up in rapture,
I'd honor & respect him then," he lied.
Honors
The priests of the ancient Greek faith
did not honor all gods & muses the same.
They only uncovered their heads for a Wraith
and bowed for a Hero of glorious fame.
For Olympians they'd burn incense in maces,
and they'd always be sure to doff to the Graces.

This one was straightforward. Yesterday I had to jot down various and sundry combinations to get those six J's.
OMK, thanks for the Greek lesson. Their many gods and goddesses were adapted by the Christian Church as Saints or as Holy Days.

Not just the Greeks. Here's Sheldon's take on Saturnalia
Clues were no problem, except for number three, which took a few extra seconds. And the solution popped out at me once the letters were there, and caused me to say "D'oh, why didn't I see that instantly, it's so obvious!".
Appreciated the semiquote about heroes getting captured. My, that seems an eternity ago, doesn't it, after all we've experienced from him since.
Thanks for the link, Wilbur. I never watched Sheldon's show when it was a hit, but I see now he was a fount of information, certainly more reliable than y.t. when in a poetic mood.
Sandy ~ Yes, ages ago! But I believe the Dear Leader has the uncanny ability to make each day seem a semi-infinity.

Misty emailed me to say she is having trouble posting on the Jumble site today. Sounds like the same problem I had last week.
If she has a post ready to go, I'll see if she'll send it to me to post on her behalf.

Testing, Testing. Just checking to see if this message goes through, after getting some help from my tech supporter.
Thank goodness, it seems to be working again. Sadly, I composed the poem I was going to send this morning here, on the Jumble site, and so don't have a written copy. I'll avoid doing that in the future so I won't completely lose any work again. But I'm glad to be back on. You all are an importantly little daily community for me, and it would be sad if I lost my place here completely.
Y A Y.
Glad to see your name popping up again, Misty ~ But very sorry your work was lost!
Yes, the smart thing to do is to compose on a reliable program, one that automatically saves your work (I use Notes), then transfer it to the posting blogger.
The Jumble site will eat your work as soon as you go to another program, and it's gone with the wind--unless you copied it.
Misty was away.
Oh no. Nay Nay.
Alas Alack.
But now she's back.
Hurrah Hurray.
A redemptive day.

Ok, thanks to Sandy's hint I got the author of that quote from the last person who ever should have been dissing true heros.
Reading it I'm amazed. Period.
He actually said the first sentence. Fact.
The rest is what you call "poetic license." But true to character, for sure.
Land that I love. How'd we ever get here?

Thank you for the sweet welcome back, Ol'Man Keith.
