Vacations are wonderful! Get out in fresh air!
Leave the workday behind, and have not a care!
Trade in that serge suit for some casual khaki!
Go and do something you'd normally think wacky!
On vacations, people are often quite different.
Most more relaxed, a few more belligerent.
Some over-worried fearing urchin pickpockets,
Others over-trusting, wandering bazaar markets.
Many eschew crowds, seek a passive surrounding.
Hike to the wilds, scenes and vistas astounding!
Wherever they go, near or remote, cities or clover,
It's back to the salt mines when vacation is over.
Owen, today's poem springs neatly from the lips - one of the tightest & most pleasantly rhythmic treats you have given us.
Well, I'm stuck because I can't get #4. Keep thinking 'science' but that would need an extra 'e'. Any hints would be appreciated--and also hints to the solution since I'm not great at pool.
v.2, l.3, v.3, l.2. One is a distant relation to the J word.
Nope, still can't get it. Boy, do I feel dumb this morning.
Misty, is it too much of a hint to describe word 4 as an adjective?
Whew, I finally got it! Yay! Finally got #4 and that helped my figure it out. It would have helped if I had remembered what those corners that the ball goes into on a pool table are called. Anyway, thanks again Owen. Your poem was a delight.
I so agree with OMK about the poem. Not only was it entertaining, but the meter/rhythm was so smooth and musical that I found myself reading it aloud to be able to hear it.
I too had a bit of trouble with word 4, similar to Misty's, but thinking about the two c's helped me out. As for the solution, when I thought about the longer word in context, it became apparent.
