I do not enjoy camping out!
I haven't since I was a Scout!
Ground is hard, rocks are harder,
French fries are not in our larder!

In a luxury suite I'd thrive,
Not out to a forest drive.
My companions still compel
Annually, this trek thru Hell!

Scores of places I'd rather settle
Than around a campfire kettle.
The best part of this call to roam
Is when I get to go back home!

Much better than yesterday's travesty of a poem!

I didn't think yesterday's poem was a travesty at all, but it is true that today's is quite clever and funny to boot. And don't forget, Owen, no bathroom!

The jumble clues came easily, except for the third, which took letter rearranging. And so did the solution, which, however, jumped out at me right away after that.
Does the approach to this solution remind anyone else of Mr. Kalish' approach to today's theme entries. Not a pun, but double-pronged thinking.

Delightful poem, this morning, Owen--I loved its simplicity and there were all the Jumble words, just waiting for us to tote them up. I had a really rough time with the crossword puzzle this morning, and, of course, the Diabolical Sudoku was impossible, as always. So I really needed an easy Jumble and this one was a delight. I got all four words with only the third one needing a little work. I worried that I'd have trouble with the solution because it was a golf theme, but it just popped right up. So, a good morning after all!

Today's poem reminds me of my Scout experiences. I never liked sleeping in a bag with a pup tent mate. It was always too *#@! cold in the morning.
I recall clinging to the warmth of my sleeping bag as long as I could because I knew the frosty air would be painful.
Funnily enough, in my 20s and into my early 40s, I enjoyed solo hiking and sleeping out for several days (up to two weeks) at a time, here and abroad--sleeping anywhere, rain or shine, from woods to farmers' fields and even public parks (ah, the Bois de Boulogne! La nature. Elle est tellement belle!).

I missed the Jumble last night, so had to catch up with the newspaper this a.m. Got all the cue words except for #3. But I saw I could settle the solution with just the three words, so worked backwards to get #3.
I placed the needed letters to the side while I used the two UNcircled middle squares for the UNneeded letters "m" and "p."
That handed me word #3.

I managed this before our trip to Ocala. #3 was a little tricky. I had to lay out the letters to get the riddle.

I'm thinking "Golf? Right up my alley". The letters fell in finally.

There are no bad Owens. Over at the CC I was trying to recall my Casey takeoff of a football game from 1986.

There was a Covington connection

It started like this

The Outlook wasn't brilliant for the Patriot team that night
Their record in Miami was an awful orange blight

And so when Eason's shoulder snapped and Miami took the lead
The hearts of stricken Pat's fans began to slowly bleed

For what could be expected...
