Gnigel was a gnasty, gnaughty Gnome,
Disliked by every one at home.
For excitement, he pulled pranks,
No one ever gave him thanks.

One day Gnigel heard a quack,
Thought of riding on duck back
Made himself a vine lasso
Stalking thru the stalks he'd go!

Flung his rope and snagged a duck!
Retied the vines and mounted up!
Made the bird turn left or right
On the ground, then in flight.

Made for the lake too wide to swim
Intent to fly from rim to rim.
Held to the duck with just his bridal --
A barrel roll liquidated Gnigel!

Well, yes, the poem made me gnash a little too. But the Jumble was pure joy this morning. Got three of the words and decided to look at the poem before working on the fourth. The long answer popped into my head instantly--it couldn't have been anything else (and I knew it would have QU in it from the first clue)--and sure enough,I got it! Yay!

No jotting necessary today.

Well, I did have a bit of trouble with the third clue and had to reorganize the letters. But the solution came easily, with the -qu- combination a big help. I enjoyed that pun, too.

The poem was a hoot today -- or maybe I should say it was a quack-up. Laughed out loud at the mental pictures it conjured. Thanks, Owen.

Searching for an appropriate rhyme, I came across the near-perfect word.
Did you know that, following Dickens, an unsuspecting person with a head for kind and generous deeds, may actually be known as (drum roll here...) Pickwick-pated?
