Sisera was a warrior, general of his army,
Determined to bring Is-rael down.
One battle left him dazed, verging on barmy,
When he found Jeal's tent outside the town.
She gave him milk to drink, and a mat to rest
After he'd drunk her potion down.
As he soundly slept, she took a tent-spike from her chest,
And nailed Sisera's head to the ground!

John was a preacher, called the Baptizer,
To show Israel a newer way.
Salome was a dancer, known as an enticer,
Who over the governor held sway.
John wore out his sandals wandering the land,
Washing people's sins all the day.
From the gov Salome, on a plate got her demand,
John's head, from his shoulders cut away!

Sisera in his pride set out to conquer and enslave
Every Israelite that he could find.
John tried humbly to adjust attitudes and to save
Every Israelite that could him find.
They were different in their methods, in their goals,
Knowing their enemies from friends,
Yet it shows that although at opposing poles,
Men at odds still could reach same ends!

Typical morning. Front pages* , Sports, Comics(I liked Snoopy today)
Haha Herman
Then the Jumble caught my eye, #3,#4 I had in seconds. So I solved the whole thing even before reading Luann. BTW, Gunther and Les have made dates with Tiffany for the same night, at their appartment. I once had three for a Sunday afternoon. That didn't work out so well.

The greater Herodian family were beauts . Salome's mother, Herodias, had a grudge against John thus the "Head on the platter"

This morning's Jumble was a delight. Such a weird little cartoon left me wondering what on earth the solution would be. But the four words filled in pretty easily and then there it was, eleven letters to be distributed. I figured that with cartoon numbers the middle word would refer to addition, and also predicted that the first and third word would end in an S. Voila! It worked. Fun Jumble.

Hope everybody has a good day!

First, the Jumble was pretty easy, especially the clues. My approach to the solution was quite similar to Misty's, so it wasn't really difficult. And I love the humor -- kind of odd and off the wall, but in the end very cute.

I so look forward every day to seeing what Owen will come up with. Speculating on what in the Jumble inspired him is fruitless, but entertaining. Shoes maybe?
Anyway, Owen's themes are amazingly eclectic, and I love their variability.

Excellent poem - of the sword-and-sandals genre! Epic.

I would speculate that it was one of the four words in particular. As in the old joke about#1 son asking Dad for a car since he'd just got his license
"Son, improve your grades, go to church and get a haircut and then talk to me"
Love and behold, all A's, glowing reports from the pastor but...
"Son, you forgot the haircut" .
"Dad, Samson, Jesus and even John the Baptist all had long hair!"
"Yes, son, and they walked everywhere they went".
