FLN Wilbur & Misty ~
I thoroughly enjoyed your late exchanges, kind--yes!--and generous in spirit. It is nice, more than nice, to have such "neighbors."

Also FLN, Wilbur ~ Guys & Dolls is indeed everybody's favorite musical. I am not a great fan of musicals, but it belongs in my top 20 list of hit shows, musical and non-musical. I never played in it, but I had the honor of producing it once.
I also had the honor of meeting Abe Burrows. His son, Jim, was directing my wife in a show, and Abe joined us all for drinks after. The only thing I remember is that he did a "take" when we were introduced--because I share the same name as an old-time collaborator of his.
"Keith!" he yelled at me, "where'd ya get all the hair?!"

The solution?
In WWI the trench in the most forward position was reserved for troops who were in the best shape to serve as defenders in case of enemy attack. I believe it was known as the "guarding pit."

"Rhyme Problems"

I wish I knew a Maggie
To give me a rhyme for BAGGY.
But at least I know a Linus
And that gives me a rhyme for MINUS.
The closest I came to FIGURE
Was a horse by the name of Trigger.
But I know I'm over my quotient
If I can't find a rhyme for POTENT.
I think I could have used a lift
To help with this morning's PARTING GIFT.

Misty's poem's enough.
She's got all the stuff.
If you think you've knocked off the Jumble,
she'll make you really feel humble!
Yet her nature is modest & kind,
as amiable & sweet as you'll find.

PS. You're only one degree of separation from a Maggie. She is my Golden.

Ok Misty, per OMK, when you've completed a tough xword instead of Woohoo it's Bow-Wow now.

I do these ahead of time since I can* and I hen I forget. I do recall no problemo.

I had to cross the Skyway Bridge and get to VA Baypines in St Pete. I think the VA is a crackerjack outfit.

Ps, speaking of xwords. Wednesday is tough. I don't say that at CC but it's ok here. SW particularly so.

Loved your poetic response, Ol'Man Keith, and is that a Golden Retriever you have? And I'm looking forward to your poem, Wilbur, and to Sandy's kind comments.

And, dear Owen,
I also miss your poem.

Yes, Owen, I hope you're just getting some extra sleep but are otherwise ok. Your poems set the standard here.

The jumble presented no problems, though the second clue, for whatever reason, took a little extra time. I thought the solution was clever, though the cartoon could have shown a more explicit connection to it.

Yes.
Her AKC registered name is "Magnificat," but, hey, to us she's Maggie.
And today happens to be her birthday. She is 11.

Don't know how to upload a picture, especially on my little tablet. So check your email, OMK.

Awww. Thank you, Sandy!

On behalf of my hairy gal,
Thanks to her new E-Pen Pal!
(You've boosted her morale.)

Baggy,Minus,Figure,Potent;Parting gift

The outlaws were gathered under the trysting tree in the greenwood
Where the leader, Locksley figured the booty each should
Receive. But then it became apparent that they were minus one
Outlaw, the curtal friar Tuck. But before a search had begun
The loud voice announced the arrival of the baggy, curtal priest.
Spake Locksley, "Methinks too potent beverage of yeast
Has been discovered. And who is this that you've brought?
It was the forlorn figure of Isaac of York, the Friar'd caught.
But to the miserable Jew the outlaw chief gave short shrift
For to the Sable Knight he wished to give a parting gift
This is the horn I won in archery at the Ashby tournament
If ever in peril in these woods, wind three mots and swift aid be sent
