Medicine Show Exi-Jesus
The "Doctor" put on quite an act,
curing two local boys right there on the stage.
He wore fancy duds, a silk hat in fact,
an image to behold, right offn' a page
of Gent's Fine Style.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Ol' Bert the chauffeur
got his headache fixed, & Pete (with the gizmo)
had a rash stopped itching. They just wore
their usual garb 'cuz they's real folk, y'know,
not actors.
: : : : : : : : : :The Doc's Elixir sold
real well--despite it being made outta sludge.
Oh, an' goose poop--in a bottle all-gold.
It helped that we rubbed the spout with fudge.

Doc always ends his sales with prayer.
He says Jesus helps him more than Bayer.

"A Master Magician"

Yes, magicians are much too clever
to let a goose loose, no, not ever.
Their art is intended to thrill,
To scrimmage an image with skill.
They work hard to create lovely beauty,
not to sludge or to drudge is their duty.
Yes, they sometimes require a tonic,
An elixir to fix their mnemonic.
They deserve an honor prestigious
for a gift not ever egregious.

Good going, Misty!
I always like your couplets. I really liked your "tonic/mnemonic" rhyme. Couplets are my favorite way of responding to the random clue words. I only avoid them now because I am trying to stretch into other schemes.
But I usually use a couplet to signal the end of a poem.
I mean, the Shakespearean sonnet is not a bad model...

Congratulations on rhyming the solution word!
Not an easy task. As you can see, I had to echo a lit-crit word that it reminded me of.

Thank you again, for your kind words, Ol'Man Keith. Your poems always inspire me and are my model. Owen and Wilbur are in such a complex and sophisticated realm that I have no way of following their lead. But it's wonderful that your poems are now complimenting theirs, and that's inspired me to try to help as well. I don't want to pressure Sandy into joining us, but it would be wonderful if she'd give us some of her word gifts, even if not rhyming or poetic. Anyway, thanks again, Keith, you keep me going.

Misty, though I enjoy your thought,
My poetizing here was effortful.
So I will leave the poetry to others,
Because I feel that's what I ought.

My version of free verse leans imperfectly toward iambic pentameter, but can accommodate only one rhyme.

That's it for me!

Some iambic tetrameter.
But who's counting?

Good to see you slipping in your oar, Sandy!

That's the imperfect aspect, OMK.

Sandy, great to have you rhyme, a little or a lot, totally up to you. Just fun to see you playing with the possibilities!

I get ahead solving because the puzzles are available. I knew EGG had something to do with the riddle-solution but it was only when I saw the plethora of vowels could I grok' the answer.

Thanks for all the verse today gang. OMK you're growing more sophisticated with each try. Misty's a natural rhymer. Sandy, you have latent talent too.

Erato comes and goes with me. I remember a few months back when I'd been toying with doing something with Ivanhoe and voila WHINNY showed up as a J.

We have weather headed towards Florida but not hurricane level.

Oops. This never got posted.
