The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

A Visit From Mr. Scratch

Would you like to sail a yacht? Heck, yeah!
Prefer a mansion to a cot? Hell, yeah!
Would you rather be rich, than not?
Well hey, any day, I'd like it a lot, yeah!

Would you like to be very witty? Heck, yeah!
Be known as the life of the city? Hell, yeah!
Make people laugh like hyenas at your ditty?
Well hey, any day, I'd like it a lot, yeah!

Are you willing to work like a slave? Heck, no!
Spend years losing all that you save? Hell, no!
Find it all equates to nothing in your grave?
Well hey, not today! You're a demon, so go!

This was another one where the solution just popped out at me, before unscrambling the clues.

But it is kinda cute as a response to the interviewer.

(Ringo's the only one I even think I recognize.)

FLN, Thank you, Wilbur,
for your note on my scheme,
ee cummings was my dream
of a poet in younger days.
It makes me glad & craze-
y that you'd think me like him anyways

Owen ~ loved your poem this morning!
I laughed & laughed. Hey ho.

Here's my bit for today:
First the title to my piece.
Oops, Funny, I already covered it with today's solution in my salute to Wilbur on his birthday.
Check back there for that; that's my "title..."

I steer my yacht, "Hyena," in pursuit
across the wide equate-r.
Payday is heyday for splitting smugglers' loot,
and I'lł catch them sooner than later.
The Coast Guard needs help? Shoot!
I'm no lollygaggin freighter....

[Lois is sharing at a meeting. The topic? Denial]
Yeah, I thought I was having fun in my heyday
Yeah, if the booze held out I was fine come what may
Yeah, those fancy talkers and their yachts were hyenas in disguise
I didn't equate powerlessness to myself until I came here and got wise

My goodness! A morning when everyone has checked in with delightful, clever, funny verses and cool comments. Tuesdays don't get any better than this--thank you, all.

Hey,Wilbur,
It's good to see a little bit more about Lois. Guess that means Chet is doing ok too.

"Nautical Pet"

After the long-time mates had tied the knot
they decided to buy and live on a yacht.
Since, happily, they had no debt,
they got a hyena as a pet.

The critter, unfortunately, did bray,
making it hard in the port to stay.
So after their options they did debate
and all their choices did equate
they decided it was best to leave the gate.

On the sea the hyena still did neigh
but now it longer the mates did sway.
They would happily hear him every day
and respond by saying "Yeah, yeah, yeah."
Each day of their lives was now a heyday.

I gotta salute Wilbur again--
for daring to end a pentameter stanza
on an 8- (or 9-!) beat line!
Sheer bravado, dude!

Misty shows how yachts & hyenas are definitely incompatible.
But how clever to play the nautical sense of "mates" alongside the marital!
An extra portion of grog all around!

Ahoy & avast! I think my own boat, Walter Mitty at the helm, is still chasing his "smugglers." For everyone's health, may he never catch up.

OMK, I wanted to use powerlessness, 1st Step key. Power itself is a key word. Did I ever post my revised Lord's Prayer?

It focuses on principles without the religion. Not that the original doesn't have meaning just not what the non religious need to hear
