|| || modem, hiker, ratify, reject, make the time.

He did not go to the opera, the words he did not know.
He did not go to the wilderness, at hiking he was so slow.
He did not go to movies, the theaters were always too dark,
He did not go to malls, he could never find where to park.

He'd seldom play with children, he couldn't make them time.
He never listened to podcasts, he hated the modem's whine.
He wouldn't go to night clubs, the music was always too loud.
He didn't go to athletic games, he disliked being in a crowd.

He rejected going to rallies, he didn't espouse any cause
(Although he did go vote, to ratify new taxes and laws).
He didn't watch T.V. at first, the shows were all so phony,
Until "reality" came along -- and he elected a star of baloney!

When almost the only thing he likes is reality shows, this guy is in deep trouble. At least he votes.

The poem itself is great, Owen; it reads so much like a litany that I can hear the response in my mind. Maybe "life stinks, I hate my life", repeated after every line?

So the jumble didn't present much difficulty today. I took a little time unscrambling the third clue, but once that was done, the solution came along. It always helps when you know what at least one of the words must be, doesn't it?

Yes, it does. It's time to acknowledge the truism that when restrictions are in place (such as the "No politics" rule), the literati & intelligentsia & poets become all the cleverer in their critiques of the status quo.

Well, I got the four items, with just a little work on #3, and the solution looked very simple, with a pretty clear indication what the third word would be. But words one and two didn't quite work so I came to Owen's poem to get help. I was so entranced by the guy's emotions in that poem that I forgot to look for the solution words until I read it a second time. And there they were--Yay! Thanks, Owen--much help as always.

Have a great day, everybody!

Not a lot of visitors today. I've realized that I missed seeing in the poem what OMK was referring to about clever critiques of the status quo. Now I get it. Especially appropriate at this time.
