The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

On distant Mars, Endeavor flies,
Monarch of the red dust skies!
Topped by spinning rotors, two,
A Mars robotic style hair-do!

On Earth, controllers heard the hiss
Of rotors turning! There was bliss!
This tiny craft would be the eldest
Of fliers through interplanet mist!

There on the front of exploration
It will take its revered station.
Tho not made of flesh and blood,
By Earth's people, it is loved!

Cont. Chet's AA saga

His Sponsor, John, was not the eldest in the group
But Chet appreciated that he always delivered the straight scoop
"Come early, sit up front, make coffee if asked
Help with the cleanup, and any other little tasks."

Being merely flesh and blood Chet was aware
Of Lois of the bouffant hairdo who was often there.
He dreamed of the bliss that the two might someday share
And was rudely awoken by John's words: "Too soon! Don't you dare."

My apologies!
I posted above when I was too sleepy. Some lines were dropped entirely.
THIS is the correct version:

"The Coif"
The most popular hairdo when I was a kid
wasn't directly modeled on Elvis. No,
he--and we--all followed where we were led
by a "hoodlum" fashion, with a wave to go
across the front, topping the head in a style
that bore a Byronic swirl, a blissful brunt
with a curl, just so, set loose from the pile.
Sideburns mattered too. From eldest to runt
we grew them full. They had to be right, neither
short nor long. We trained them to frame the ear,
long enough to show some beard, shaved neater
than head hair would allow. And at the rear--
Aah!...
the signature DA--our "duck's ass"--bade "Farewell!"
to friend and foe, with an insouciant "Go to Hell!"

PS.
In the spirit of Spooner, he could only hope the river would rise enough to float his raft. He whispered a prayer, in order to BLESS AND FLOOD the dry gulch!

Wilbur ~ Nice to see you once again "hitting your stride"--with a subject that clearly matters to you.
I suppose it makes sense for sponsor John to warn Chet off from dating a fellow in recovery.
Romantic pairing is always vulnerable to emotional ups & downs, misunderstandings, even recriminations. You don't need to add that to all the other turmoil folk are likely to go through in the program. At least if he's seeing someone outside AA, his sponsor can offer support w/o compromising another member.
BTW, I just read that the Catholic Church uses "sponsor" as synonymous with "godparent." I guess AA's founders knew that.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Three brilliant Jumble poems this morning, each with all the words and that miserable solution beautifully worked into them. Absolutely amazing. Thank you for that great start!

Owen, a terrific idea, to take all those words up into space! And to do so in an elegant rhyme is extraordinary!

Wilbur, I love the intimacy of your setting and the relationship moment that occurs and fades there.

Ol'Man Keith,what a delightful childhood hair-do story!

A great set of morning verses, just wonderful!

"Messy Family"

Harriet's family's flesh and blood
was not very handsome and more like mud.
Harriet herself had a bad hair-do
which caused her to worry and fret and stew.
She was the eldest of the siblings--
a group inclined to fights and quibblings.
And so she was often at the front
when the kids each other would tease and taunt.
One day her sister did Harriet diss
but she responded with a kiss!
This surprised the kids so very much
that they baked her some cookies and some fudge.
And now their fights they no longer miss
and instead enjoy their newfound bliss.

Wilbur, John seems like a good choice for a sponsor. I imagine it's not an easy job, and one that many attendees would not welcome. Or does everyone have to do a stint as a sponsor?

Misty ~ Thank you for adding a fourth installment
to today's poetic allotment.
It contains a familiar list
of sibling fouls--halted by a kiss.

It's good advice, a Sunday School trick.
But I have to say
back in my day
I'd have responded to my Sis with "Ick!"

Thank you, OMKB. Had it been a brother who daunted her, and not a sister, Harriet would not have been so kind and friendly.

Owen ~ Thank you for that fine tribute to the Martian helicopter! It deserves to be celebrated. I thought it wouldn't have a prayer to fly in that thin atmosphere.
Ye gods, how super fast those rotors have to spin!

Owen I see is back in form. At CC too. I like seeing HAIRDO and thinking Mars. OMK, thanks for bringing back the 50s. I should post my yearbook picture. I always say. "I led three lives " in HS. On top of Honors classes I combined 'Gang ' and basketball.

On the latter..
The Coach wouldn't allow an OMK-style DO.
But thankfully didn't insist on a Crew
And the Gang would pretend not to look
If I secretly smuggled home my French II Book

No Sandy today. I forgot to check late Thursday posts.. I thought she'd like a little romance in the halls. OMK is right, relationships too early can Doom long term sobriety. Thus the third step. eg Trusting God(or Whomever*).

Re. Sponsor(ship). Many words are written on this and there are guides. Bill W himself once said to LOIS , his wife**, "I've spent 6 months trying to help and not one has gotten sober ". Her response:

"Wrong. One did, YOU!"

* We say, be careful what you ask him for, he works in mysterious ways

** Oops the cats out of the bag. I probably could have called Chet, Wilbur
