The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

Well, looks like another Sunday with only the J6 anywhere online. I'll keep checking, but if nothing's up by now...
Well, I got my Mothers Day present & cards all sorted away, so it's time for this Ol' Dad to kick back & let the ladies sleep in until they wake up to their surprises.
~ and Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms who do the Jumble!
Reminder: I'll be letting my Muse rest today.

{Lois says}
"I suggest a brief hiatus from this shrouded life you lead
Come to a meeting tomorrow perhaps we'll plant a seed
Of hope. All we ask is that you funnel your thoughts to the future .
Our way is a daily reprieve; its not a permanent cure"
At the meeting next night Chet expected to face a grilling
Actually he saw smiling faces and laughter like that of children
Again his hopes were raised. "All we ask is that you be willing "
Chet inhaled a new intoxication - that of new found freedom.

Well, one hopes Chet is free from alcohol, but doesn't AA stress continual recommitment to abstinence? Yes, I see, the "daily reprieve".
So Happy Mothers' Day to us all. Fathers' Day to come.
"Parents"
The couple worked hard at children raising
and hoped to receive much praising.
But the project first felt like a tunnel
for which they might need a funnel.
Each day they would inhale
and pray that they wouldn't fail.
They longed for a hiatus,
a day with no wails or fuss.
When relatives would them grill,
they worked hard to show their skill.
Soon the children bloomed, so actually,
they had parented well, factually.
They no longer felt under a shroud
but began to feel relieved and proud.
Raising kids had not been an easy spell,
but now they were grown and doing well.
And today they celebrate Mother's Day,
making their parents happy and gay.
Misty, you didn't disappoint with that wholesome Mother's day poem. Indeed parents can be "gay" and still be wonderful .
Thanks Sandy. I appreciate your encouragement. Chet has literally taken the first step(into the halls).

So good to see both Wilbur and Misty posting strong work today--while I kick back and laze the day away.
Turned out to be a good day for Moms (and me too!) to sleep late. The sun stays shrouded in clouds and haze here in SoCal, defying our reputation as the American Mediterranean. Ah, well, we can't appreciate the Good without a fair measure of the... well, er-- not-so-Good.
Right?
FLN: I hope everybody got to read the late postings. Wilbur, I liked your note/link re. Roy Orbison. Made me aware of the danger that Chet, in embracing the "cure," might lose or lessen his concern for the sad and lonely.
Singers and poets remind us we must never leave that consciousness entirely behind.
Today's verses make me proud to be part of our little coterie. Wilbur ~ I got a nice jolt--along with Chet--when he found smiles and affirmation instead of puritanical hassling.
I guess that falls in the "catching more flies with honey" department.
Misty ~ Your couple seemed to have a rough time while doing right by their kids, finding the effort grueling & not immediately rewarding. They "hoped to receive much praising" right from the start, so were disappointed.
I guess they never got the break they wanted until the kids were grown. But it was good to see they eventually felt they had done well and could finally take satisfaction--whether they got praise or not.
I wonder if the "One day at a time" formula doesn't apply to them--as well as to Chet?
Your inclusion of today's clues was also impressive. Not an easy batch of words to process...
Thank you, both for your beautiful work!
And thanks too to Sandy for chipping in--and to Owen for keeping the site alive and thriving.
Well done, all!

Thank you for the kind comments, Ol' Man Keith.
And Wilbur, your thoughtful advice of Lois to Chet is inspiring, and beautifully written. Very thoughtful and smoothly versed. I really enjoyed it.
Misty, OMK and Sandy...
Remember this?
Harry came to the halls one day
He said ” I've nowhere else to go".
He was met by smiling faces,
A cup of coffee, and a warm hello
.
“I'm in a bad way, I just can't cope,
Nor put down the drink, I fear”.
We're glad you came, for here there's Hope.
We have a plan and it starts right Here.
