The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

The would-be POET who would court ERATO
Would do well, to practice long and hard.
For she expects her acolytes, like castrato,
Forego some truancy, to be a worthy bard!
While within her orbit, be ye yet wary
She can devour you with doggerel and pastiche.
She can intoxicate you with your own whimsy,
Like a sot in a winery, you'll need relief!
Erato is a fickle bitch, a limber whore.
She will leave for another in mid-SONNET.
While she's with you, she can make words SOAR;
Then she's flown, you're alone to sweat upon it!
Erato is a Muse who'll ne'er be overthrown,
And she ever has me in thrall as her own.
Chet meanwhile devoured AA meetings making the orbit of the circuit
No longer interested in wineries nor breweries but
Focused on the experience, strength and hope he found in the room
For he'd thrown over the old despair and depressive gloom

Owen. Double duty today. CC + J words. Very nice package.

"Royalty"
When her father's reign was overthrown
the princess knew she'd be on her own.
To find a new orbit she'd have to quit
depending on others, and trust her own wit.
So she sold off most of her finery
and the funds let her open a winery.
People loved the drinks they could now devour
and praises upon her bottles they'd shower.
She's now been in the business for quite a while
and enjoyed the attention and the style.
There is simply no way she could have foreseen
that making wine would make her a queen.
Perhaps MIsty's Princess produced the young wine mentioned below...
"Concession"
While completing his orbit about the winery
the old wine taster devours his lunch.
Then he dresses in his official finery,
and arranges his tasting cups in a bunch.
For the cameras he'll make his recommendation
as to which wine has most successfully grown
through the latest fermentation.
He tastes...
He tests!
He spits...
He rests.
He speaks for the microphone:
"The well-known cru defends its reputation,
but the brash young grape engages in usurpation--
& Yes! mes amis, our tired old nom is overthrown!"

Terrific WINE references in all the poetry this morning, and Wilbur, so glad that Chet is in good spirits and on the road to recovery.
Own, Erato may not be happy about all your descriptions of her, but she will surely be thrilled to be described as making words SOAR.
And, Ol' Man Keith, what an amazing old wine taster you have in your verse, still working so professionally and rendering his judgments. Many thanks for him, and to him, as well.
Thanks for explaining your typo, Wilbur. You really had us going, as you can see!
Your verse today shows Chet emerging on the happier side of the process--an appropriate reward for his good efforts. Now he need only take it "a day at a time."
Owen! A serious reflection on Erato's power, on both her embrace and capriciousness.
Given her dominance over many of our souls, I wonder we have not yet heard of PA--Poets Anonymous.
Have we?

Wilbur -- Ohhh! Typo! That's a relief.
I hope most people's AA experience is like the one you describe. I don't know what their success rate actually is, but that guy you described FLN is a cautionary tale, isn't it? I suppose abstinence is a lifelong struggle.
Yes, Sandy's supposition must be right--that for some abstinence must be a continual challenge.
Wilbur's lapsed wino is probably one who actually thought he could go back to being just another cool cucumber.

OMK, Sandy do you recall my reference to Elliott Roosevelt? He had the best doctors and sanitariums. I'm sure he was declared sane, eg "cured". But yes, he had entered the pickle stage.
And prior to 1939 there was no solution. He was doomed to drink again or….
As Winston Churchill remarked: Every alcoholic I ever knew who went abstinent went insane.
What % get well? They say one in ten. AA would say 100% who fully apply themselves to the principles. "I tried AA and it didn't work". Common lament. "Trying" DOESN'T work. 100% commitment does.
Let's see how Chet fares tomorrow .
From what we know of Churchill's habit, he was likely an addict. His view of abstinence--that you cite--certainly supported his drinking.
