The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

Piglet was hungry, and he waived the icing.

you may lower your pricing,
and, I, my diabetic susceptibility.”

"Great Gift"

The parents were intuitive
about what present they would give.
They did their best not to waive
a party during which they gave
a piglet as their daughter's gift
which greatly did her spirits lift.

The piglet was the icing on the cake
which did her birthday special make.
The notion was great, and more than enough
to make the girl feel her parents' love.

Now, I'm guessing--just guessing, mind you!--that the piglet in question was a live one, as in my poem, and not like the one we served our guests in our 12th Night Party several years back.
When you mention a piglet as a gift at a party it might be wise to clarify its living/breathing status right away. So there's no misunderstanding.

LIVE piglets are a real hoot. I saw them racing a few years ago at the OC County Fair.

But Yum. I still remember that baked pig. This was way back in the '60s. My then-wife arranged to rent a bakery oven overnight, so it could roast very slowly. It had the traditional apple in its mouth. We served it by carrying it to the table on a decorated platter while singing the "Boar's Head Carol."
I still recall it as the tenderest meat I ever tasted!

I hope your piglet was as happy to be given to the daughter as the daughter was to receive it.

Oh dear, I didn't even think of a piglet as a roast pig when I wrote my verse.
You know, some days I just hate having to write a poem around Jumble words. But I guess that's what our game on this site is all about. Well, you're right, Ol' Man Keith, the piglet in my poem oinked and smiled when she was handed over to the little girl. (No, she's not the one who has diabetes in your poem).

Misty, I applaud your heroic efforts to presided the J's. I decided just to grab a word I already used

Irony,Waive,Pursue,Humane;Whoa is me
------
Oh, woe is me. Where did my values slip from this earth
How could a warm and loving soul wave off the gifts of my birth.
As I chased another love the irony was "True love lives at home"
"Oh, the humanity*, to pursue a lesser love why'd I ever roam."

That one speaks for Joe or Judy Everyman. That is where it applies. Not good ol' Wilbur of course

Mindy, don't you have a birthday soon?

Are those the new Jumble words, Wilbur?
No, I guess you wouldn't be revealing them ahead of time. So, for some reason you are re-printing a poem from the past?
Forgive me, I am lost. It is a lovely verse but, except for the inclusion of "waive," I do not understand its relevance.

Misty. I think it was not just the mention of a party, but the fact that this was a young one, a piglet that had me thinking food.
Whenever pork is served, it isn't just a pig--or boar--that is desirable, but truly a young piglet.
When I think back on it now, it saddens me a little--to think of the joy we took from eating such a young critter.

Wilbur, so great to have you back, with a lovely verse as a special treat!
Thank you so much for checking in with us today.

Yes, I do have a birthday coming up next week: December 23. As I've mentioned in earlier e-mails, not a great day for a kid's birthday party. When my mother scheduled the only birthday party in my youth, the kids brought no presents because they figured it was a Christmas party. So nowadays I never mention my birthday anymore-unless friends, like you, ask me.

OMK, you've been very kind about the piglet all day--thanks again for that!
