FLN, Misty, Wilbur ~ I posted late for you; hope you saw my notes.

Today’s Jumble:

“(Let) Fall the (Bl)ame!

Last year, the hourly wage for females
averaged 18% less than men—
an awful figure that tips the scales
unfairly despite our prayers. “Amen,”
is all we can say after serious dollars
were paid to lobby, and goodly valid
efforts led by lawyers & scholars—
comprising a veritable legalistic salad!

"Talent?"

Bill once wrote a silly ballad
about making a caesar salad,
which he hourly sent by e-mail
to a friend, who was a kind female.
But she found the ballad awful
and responded with a jaw-ful.

Bill now feels a bit of shame
for having played this silly game.
Then today he saw his name
in a "Ballad Hall of Fame."
His female friend had changed her mind
and decided his ballad was one of a kind.

“Awful/jaw-ful” is a classy echo, Misty, right up there with “his lot/upsot” in the original Jingle Bells, I’d say.
These light-hearted pieces invite invention, don’t they?

As for salads—of the eating kind, unlike my mishmash word—Caesar is my favorite.
I prefer mine with the anchovies in, very hard to find these days.
Did you get a chance to check my question FLN?

I gather the pay gap for women hasn't improved yet, although it seems there's an effort to make it happen--is that right, Ol' Man Keith?

I went back to check your last comment yesterday, OMK, and looked up 'sonitis immensus.' Is it the dragons whose loud noise is being heard or someone else's?
Sorry to be so dense.

Great that you like Caesar salad. Looked up the recipe and can't believe the dressing has raw egg yolks in it. Don't believe I've ever had one, but if you like it, it must taste great!

Lefty and Wilbur are coming out of retirement

WC

If there's a Hall of Fame for persistence in face of failure
Then Lefty Sprockett would qualify, that is for sure.
His salad days were in the old Augusta-Bangor league
All he ever had to show were the scars of battle fatigue

Now if he got paid hourly for every inning pitched
Perhaps he'd have retired with his pockets full
Or perhaps it was a female to which he'd become bewitched.
Final epitaph for Lefty: "We loved ya but you were just awful!"

Fln, I did notice the rhyming Latin, OMK, shades of "LA plume de ma tante "

Re. Today's J's: I tried AFLAME on #3. I could nor suss HAIRDO the other day at all .

Misty, as "Bill" found out poetry appreciation is in the ears of the listeners. Even though I hang with a bunch of AAers none of them are interested in Chet and Lois even Lois.

And for those that find the Big Book hard reading I'd think the poetry might be the ticket

Wilbur, well, maybe not Lefty; but I've always been interested in Chet and Lois.

The wage gap has been closing. It used to be so much worse, that some see that 18% as "not so bad."
We forget how the ecomony & demographics have changed, how it used to be that women in the workforce were not routine, and this was the justification for paying men relatively more--because they (men) were expected to raise families on their salaries, while women workers were either "spinsters" or if they were married, their income was seen as merely supplemental.

Now families depend on two incomes. My mom was a stay-at-home mother, but my wife, the mother of my kids, had to work. This has become the standard.

I suppose we will close that final 18% when women and men will always "split the bill"--SHARE costs without exception when dining out or paying for tickets, travel expenses, etc. even when single and dating one another.
Are we there yet?

Wilbur ~ I guess ol' Lefty was one of those colorful characters, of which baseball has legions.
My own "Lefty," the one I recall from my own "salad days," was Lefty O'Doul, one-time pitcher and later manager of the great San Francisco Seals, the minor league team that will always be major in my heart.
Not only did I enjoy his baseball expertise, but my high school dates often started or ended happily in Lefty's restaurant, where the roast beef on hard roll was always a blessed event.

OMK, Joe Dimaggio credited Lefty with making him a better hitter. PCL was essentially a AAAA League.

Ted Williams got started there with San Diego in his teens.

OK, Misty and Sandy it's back to Chet and Lois. Trying to J-Rhyme the Idiot was ...

OK Idiotic

Hope you all took advantage of the enlargement feature today to see the photos on the wall!

Sorry, Owen, but I don't remember getting instructions on how to do anything like that.
