Bobby was in the market for a Sweety.

He wanted to latch onto someone exciting
Who'd lead him to adventures inviting!
Clara was a girl who wasn't tied down.
She made her own way! It caused men to frown.
She claimed that she'd crossed the equator,
Riding the tail of a wild alligator!
Her path crossed his. The oddest couple:
He read books, lived in his bubble
She wanted no one to crimp her style
But love brought them together for a while!
But just for a while. Each reverted to type.
He gladly returned to books, she to life.

Leo did his foot catch
in the door he tried to un-latch.
It caused his toes to crimp
and made him walk with a limp.
Now, sadly, he's no longer the hottest,
though he's gladly not the oddest.

I noted your interesting use of Crimp referring to the latch. (Implying adding a ridging and thus making the latch inoperable?)
The word does have several meanings besides the old one that has me envisioning curling irons heated on the fireplace.
Wow! Misty thought of crimped toes - very descriptive, and different than the usual cramped. But Leo has not had his style cramped. Watch out ladies!

I just looked him up. 1920-29 was probably the greatest span of pure hitting in history.
