Today’s Jumble haiku:
Sometimes a bookie just can’t trust the data.
Then you have to go back and…

“(Re-)Count the Counts
(for yourself)

This nutty custom
occurs whenever the odds
turn out uneven.

Manners Count

It would never even occur to me
To disparage a custom,
However nutty it may seem.
Nothing could be ruder.

Haha OMK, I loved your uneven odds.
We went in different directions with the words today. Let’s see what Misty and WC do.

Misty said...

"Friendship End"

Bob had a long-time buddy
who was funny but also nutty.
It was his custom to want to drink rum
every evening with his chum,
who was not happy to concur
when arguments did occur.

With a friendship so uneven
Bob felt it was time to be leaving.
Having counted the reasons "why,"
it was time to say "Good-bye."

I know you great northerners are generous with the “U,”
Ah but, CEh!—isn’t “Magnuficent” a binge too far?
Still, congratulations on your par finish! It was a comparatively hard W with which to end the week.
If I were to take a real WAG at your 2nd level guess, I might try ARGUE…

Yes, our use of the J-words is different today. My approach is a bit shady, while your poem is a respectable anthropologist’s credo.
Keep it up, and you Keeners might get a rep for being “polite.”

Misty ~ In light of your resolve (yesterday) to try more complex stories, today’s “Friendship End” presents a clear step in that direction. It certainly isn’t the rosy vision we usually see in your pieces.
Friends may certainly fall out over alcohol. Bob’s pal seems devoted to his rum.
I sympathize with Bob’s plight.
Like me, he may be a Scotch drinker.

Well, without OMK's Wordle hint, it took me four tries to get the solution today. But at least I got it:

Wordle 434 4/6

⬜⬜⬜🟩🟨
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Not a Woohoo! Just a relief. Hope I can get your help tomorrow, OMK--I need it, as you can see.

So, I had to look up "bookie" to figure out what they have to do with betting: "person who determines gambling odds and receives and pays off debts." Hope your poor guy gets it right or it sounds like he'll lose money, OMK.

Without OMK's hint I didn't do as well as you on my Wordle this morning, CanadianEh!. Hope I can get some help so I can do better tomorrow. But loved your polite verse this morning.

No sign of Wilbur, yet. Maybe you can invite him to share a glass of Scotch, OMK.

Good for you, Misty ~ You got ahead of me, which is fine.
It is good to see that, even hintless, you only dropped one point—to bogey!
Here’s the hint I was saving for you…

Wordle 435 Hint: A comparative adjective, applied to a simpler person, or a more impolite one; a version of a word Shakespeare used for “a madbrain… full of spleen.”
Par = 3

To use a comparative. Then again I'm struggling with Rich Norris today re. Sat xword.

My geography is failing me and it's supposed to be a strength

BTW, the word old Will used was “rudesby.”
It’s from Taming of the Shrew, used by Kate of Petruchio.

Shakespeare had a way with insults, everyone knows. But he could also dish out praise.
One of my favorites is from Twelfth Night, when Sir Andrew says that Maria is a “good wench.” Sir Toby takes it up a notch by adding,
“She’s a beagle, true bred.”

Welcome, Wilbur!

Yes, the Sat. XWD is nasty. I cheated after I hit the 3/4 mark.
I just had the feeling that Mr. Norris’ brain & mine were incompatible.

Don’t feel at all down about your W. When you go hintless, I think anything under 6 is a real victory—esp. today.

Haven't checked in in a few days, but looks like the days have been turning over fine without my further assistance!
Wilbur, could you ask Archie to set up September? It's easier than it was. Boring, time-consuming, but very repetitious, which he'll like!
Go to the blog dashboard, click the button or menu item for a new page. Type in Sunday as a title if it's Sunday you're setting up for. On the right hand menu (you might need to click on the gear icon if it's not automatically there) Go down to the date, change it to 12 AM and whatever date you're setting it up for. Then click the Publish arrow, and you're set for another day! Do check the dashboard at the end to make sure you didn't skip any dates or make any date twice.

Looks like Aug. 28 isn’t showing yet, and I don’t know whether Owen has set it up to go that far.

I just wanna leave this note that I will be taking Sunday off.
I’ll probably look in to see what others may post, but it’s time I took my break.

OMK- yes, my typing skills were failing yesterday, but I fell back to my British U! LOL!

Misty- 4 on Wordle without a hint is great. You even beat WC today.
Lovely verse too.

Looks like a good thing that I did not have time to get to the Saturday CW. I am prepping for a visit from three or the grandchildren this week. I may not have time to get here or to the Corner. I’m sure to be exhausted by the end of the week! But it will be fun.
