In past days-off I found that events circumstantial
prevented my accomplishing anything substantial.
I meant to make daytime use of dreams. Yet—too bad!—
I had to give that up while lighting my way from S.A.D.
In the end, nothing got accomplished.

I suppose I shouldn’t be astonished
by the failure of plans. Maybe trying too hard
is not the way that scans—like reading a cue card
when you need to improvise.
It’s the wrong franchise.

There’s too much at stake for 12 working hours:
you don’t plant seeds and—right away—flowers!
What to do, ah, what to do,
I can use advice, mes petit-choux!

This week’s break is pre-dedicated
to a deadlined essay that’s anticipated
as the foreword to a friend’s book.
He’s finished his draft, and I know it took
years in the writing. I promised my page
a week ago. Is it going to take a swage
to keep my word?
That’s absurd.

Say a prayer for me, those with faith!
Me? I’ll appeal to the nearest wraith—
any ghost or specter will have to do,
while I put in the hours, 9 to 2,
and 3 to whenever; it’s got to get done.
It is how I’ll be spending my free-time Sun.
Day.

Yay.

Some people are natural extroverts,
Humans to them are like desserts. Yet others will shy from
Looking to spy a chum;
You all know such introverts.

In cold enough weather, iguanas will freeze
In late fall, they may fall from trees!
It was winter when the kittens lost mittens.
A sign of spring is a robin, not chickens.

But in the summer is my favorite season.
The blessed warmth of the sun is the reason.
I hate the cold and the stormy weather,
Frosts in spring and fall together!

School boys can put aside their learnin';
From hot pulpits are preached hellfire sermons!
Eggs fry on car hoods, in pans of copper,
We can laze in the shade, with a fishpole and bobber.

It's time for travel to scenic parts,
Historic cities and wilderness parks!

"Grit and Wit"

In her spare time Kathy had written
a lovely poem about her kitten
and of other creatures as well,
like iguanas and chickens, she had stories to tell.

Her tales were scenic and never tough
but cheerful with just enough fluff.
She never preached from the pulpit
and preferred to offer a spring of wit.

The result of months of her devoted stint
is that her poems and tales have now appeared in print.

I want to apologize for not putting in a line feed in my W poem, which hid the solution. But then I see both Misty & Keith made the same error today!

My goodness, Ol' Man Keith, you've certainly put in many, many hours to produce a brilliant sad verse, and that is certainly an accomplishment. I think you deserve a lovely glass of wine and a toast in response!

Oh, Owen we were supposed to get a lovely warm day of sunshine here in Laguna Beach today, but here it is, the middle of the afternoon, and it is cloudy and still somewhat chilly outside. I do pray for some sunny, bright, and warm summer weather sometime soon. I miss it.

And I also miss both CanadianEh! and Wilbur. Hope you are well, and will both check in with us this afternoon.
