The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Daydreams of a lighthouse keeper
Of rowing out into the sea.
Lassoing a wild dolphin stallion
And joining a porpoise cavalry!
Daydreams of a lighthouse keeper
Of his beacon as a laser light.
Casting about for flying saucers,
Blasting them off the walls of night!
Daydreams of a lighthouse keeper
Climbing to the top of his tower.
Lighting his barbecue for a steak,
The grill's flame as beam for an hour!
Daydreams of a lighthouse keeper
As he scrubs with a mildew cleaner.
I imagine it's true, certainly in olden times, that keepers of the seaward lights did a great deal of dreaming. Realistically, they probably favored fantasies of dwelling on high, dry country further inland.
Unless they were voracious readers or played musical instruments, they must have had the lighthouse version of cabin fever, perhaps pacing in circles, biting their nails, and...

I don't know what sort of dreams lighthouse keepers might have had, but I can certainly empathize with thinking about something else while scrubbing away. I suppose the mildew came from all that salty dampness???
Anyway the jumble clues gave me fits this time. Specifically the fourth; I just don't seem to deal well when there are as many vowels as consonants. But I finally got it, and then assuming that the first word of the solution must be a gerund helped with that. I prefer your cartoon for this jumble, Owen. It seems to hint at the solution better.
Thanks for the comment about my illo, Sandy! I am, uh, "not comfortable" with heights, so looking thru pages of climbing photos made this one this one difficult in a different way than normal! The 2-shot collage worked pretty well, IMHO, while still avoiding the scarier views!
Like Sandyanon, I too had trouble with the fourth Jumble word, and needed Owen's poem to give it to me. It worked, and I enjoyed reading about the lighthouse keeper's daydreams. Once I had the fourth word I got the solution, which Owen's picture wonderfully illustrates. I did like the tiny figure scaling the mountain in the cartoon, though the ravine confused me a little. The pine trees in the background were nice, and the figure on right with the sunglasses and the smiling face on the T-shirt sure has a crazy hairdo. Also nice to see a mustache on the fellow with the panicked look.
I tried my little trick with #4 and presto, I saw the light . Gerund I guess means the "ing". Yes?
In both illustrations there's one common element.
Always great to see what Owen will come up with given the disparate words.

It's after 2 am in CA, and the May 4 jumble is still incomplete, with none of the answers posted. The May 5 page is nowhere to be found. I hope Owen is well. Nothing to be done but to check back periodically--until I sleep.

Finally back on line! Internet has been dead here since before Sunday's Jumble became available here! Just starting to do the puzzles now, will get pieces up as I get them done, but t'll be a few hours!
