The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

"Avian Melody"
I can't resist the call of the wild wood thrush,
as teasing a tune as can be.
It's said to make old men revisit their youth--
so sinful a romp, what a spree!

The glint of the sun off bedewed blades of grass
marks the first day of warmth in the spring,
but nothing stirs heat in the depth of my heart
like the sight of the thrush on the wing.

From when she was a glint in her daddy's eye,
Gwendolyn was a tease.
Childhood days on the playground she'd fly,
And avoid the boys with ease.
High school days she'd simper and sigh,
And keep the lads in a daze.
In college days she'd date every guy,
But not fall into sinful ways.

With adulthood Gwen needed a wider plan
To torment man and boy.
So she took to the stage and danced with a fan,
Her assets to deploy!
The few that resisted she won with her song,
She had the voice of a thrush.
She sang with intent to conquer the throng,
And over her, all did gush!

Keith, no question about it, yours is the best today, as it often is! I don't often comment, but I want all of you to know I enjoy all of your poems, Misty and Wilbur too!

Thank you, Owen ~ It's very kind of you to say so. We are each following your lead. Today I love how you develop the life phases of a tease, where my piece is pretty much a single sentiment.
I suppose we are each inclined to self-consciousness about our own work & inclined to value what's new to us from others.

Bravo! Bravo! Two magical poems to start off our day--both beautiful in their delicate styles and sentiments! Thank you both for this gift, Ol' Man Keith and Owen. I'm afraid mine is a bit of trash this morning, but at least I'm checking in.

The Jumble cartoon takes me back.
My folks took my brother and sister and me camping every year in northern California. We LOVED it. We pitched two tents, one big walk-around tent for my dad and mom and baby sister and a pup tent for my brother and me.
For short vacations, we'd go to Samuel Taylor Park outside of San Francisco, and for one and two-week stays we went up to Castle Crags Park near Mt. Shasta.

"Silly Romance"

The moment he saw the glint
in her eye, 'twas a hint
that romance was nigh.

She was easy to please
and a bit of a tease,
so her cheeks he would squeeze,

and that made her blush
and flush like a thrush,
and with laughter gush.

Their play was not sinful
just spin-ful
and win-ful.

He couldn't resist,
he just had to persist
and on marriage insist.

So in May in a tent,
with his knee a bit bent,
a proposal he sent.

They're now happy and wed
and each night in their bed
they kiss head to head.

Excellent poem, Misty--never mind your self-disparagement as "trash."

The overall arc may have been predictable (from the first "glint" to going "head to head" in the marriage "bed"), but you took us through five extra stanzas, each a phrase with triple rhymes.
I particularly appreciated stanza 3, with its "flush" of "thrush," an image more complex than I first supposed. We usually think of flush as an emotional rush, maybe like (the first word you used) "blush." But I had to check myself when I realized nobody could see a blush on a little brown songbird.
That's what sent me to the more appropriate image--as a startled flight of birds. What a great image to amplify her "gush" of laughter! The flapping of wing, the suddenness, how wonderful!

I doubt Sandy was crazy about the riddle-solution as I was not. I got tomorrow's though. Woohoo.

All I'm managing us the xword these days. I really don't have the gift like my compatriots except once in awhile an idea will strike me.

OMK, I agree with Owen that your talent show through this morning. Owen a very close second.

Misty was excellent as well.

Wilbur, we miss your poem with their complicated and interesting narratives, and look forward to seeing them when you have them.

I have stopped expecting the solutions to be puns, Wilbur. If they are, good, if not, then ok! This one, I thought, was a little forced, but whatever!
