The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

I'm sure they were.

Perfectly logical, but IMO, not clever or funny.

The seats look kind of comfy!

Before she downed her prunes, she started her day off with a mug full of shredded wheat, for extra fiber, in what she called...

"Her Shred Cup"
Then why didn't she eat fewer prunes
before teaching class that day?
How did she manage the quiet effort
to stay at the podium? Her squeeze play!

"Challenge"

Karen designed a cartoon
which the editor asked her to prune.
Her designs were among the newer,
but her publishers had become fewer.
She wished she could report
all the obstacles to her effort
by giving a speech on a podium--
a speech full of salt and sodium.
In truth, she was fed up
but decided to keep her head up
by switching to cartoon satire
which a publisher did admire
and she finally got her desire.
She now has a full-time job
and her fans are an avid mob.

I guess Karen learned that the market for satire trumps her previous straight-faced approach to her art. Tastes change, although humorous cartooning seems to have been a mainstay for the past century.
Oh, well, she's figured it out, and happily secured her future.

Well done, Misty, covering the required words, and nice touch choosing an alternate meaning for "prune."
You also picked the correct preposition for "podium," something I failed to do.
Your trademark progression of couplets (plus one triplet) keeps a steady beat--again.

I am late posting a reply today because I had dermatology appointment this morning--another removal of a facial skin cancer via Mohs surgery.
This is the fourth surgery I've had to do--the price of all those years practically living on the beach.
I have two more scheduled, through mid-September.
This one was on the inside of my left eyebrow. I keep hoping one of these cuts will leave a "distinguished" scar. But they never do.

OMK, thank you for your very kind review of my verse this morning. It's always tough to work with Jumble words, isn't it?

I'm always amazed at how you work all the Jumble words and solution into your very brief, tight verse. I'm a little puzzled by her dilemma, though, and a little nervous asking about her "squeeze play". Does she have to go to the bathroom when she's giving a lecture? It's these mysteries that make your verses so intriguing.

I am so very sorry to hear about your skin cancer surgeries, especially in vulnerable places so close to your eye. But thank goodness they don't leave a scar. Do take good care of yourself. I'm usually so happy about our sunshine, but it hadn't occurred to me what a risk it could pose for someone with your vulnerability. My heart goes out to you.

I didn't think it was much of a mystery this time, Misty, prunes (and fiber) being famous for their cathartic repercussions.
Anyway, yes, you guessed it.

Thanks for your kind words about my derma problem.
I can't complain. I enjoyed those years in the sun, sometimes "baking" for hours, flat on the sand, between long, lazy swims in the sea. From Virginia Beach to the Gulf and finally decades in SoCal, I enjoyed all our sunlit coasts.

(Sorry! - I didn't mean to go on, but surprised myself when I began to count the oceans I've swum.)
