This is about my batty Uncle Ned
And some of the wildest things he's said.

He doesn't think the world is flat.
He says it's more the shape of a hat!
A bowler hat with a very wide brim,
And rainbows are where we can see the rim!

He won't eat things that are spicy hot,
Says they melt eye lids and make them pop!
Just look at the bulging eyes on a mantis.
He lives on jalapeños, where he prances!

He says that horny toads are good to stroke.
They're not so smooth, like furry cat folk.
Their bodies are covered with rough hide
That will sand off calluses. Ned's never lied!

"Sedately Bawdy"
I thought it cool, smooth, and pert
to engage in somethin' natty
by setting my eyelid to flutter.

Now wasn't that a spicy way to flirt?
But she just thought me batty
& nuttier than peanut butter.

I just posted something I'd composed last night.

We all have a batty uncle. Mine's rich.

"Gal Pal"

Patty grew up as a cute kid
with a stye on her little eyelid.
She was generally friendly and chatty
and sometimes a little bit batty.
At times she could be feisty
with retorts that were a bit spicy,
but at other times she behaved nicely.
She became a bit uncouth
on days she had a sore tooth
but, when fixed, was again very smooth.
She had friends with shapely bodies
because they worked their karates
which made them considered hotties.
Patty worked out and is now also shapely
and told her photographer: "Tape me."
All in all, she's a wonderful friend
and we'll love her to the the end.

Patty may be a "cute kid" indeed, Misty, but you have given us a bit of a puzzle with her demand to "her photographer."
What is the subtext behind this mysterious injunction to "Tape me"?
Now that she has attained a shapely bod, like those of her "hottie" gal pals, is she just eager to have anyone grab a tape measure and check her for themselves?
Is she aware that current cameras don't use film, and thinks "tape" is shorthand for a digital image?
Or is she asking the photog to press the video button? (Maybe she has a new little dance routine she wants memorialized.)

Which? All three?

Owen ~ I gotta wonder why you think your Uncle Ned is batty.
C'mon...
I read through the items you cited.
And your Uncle Ned is a genius!

Well, gosh, Ol' Man Keith, I should have taken a hint from you that would have let me get rid of the photographer--something like:

Patty worked out and is now also shapely,
and has begun courting young men sedately.

Better?

Here is a link to poems of the week at Light, a journal of light verse. I have a reminder note pop up each week to read it. I think all of you might enjoy it, too.

Thanks for the link, Owen. Some good stuff there.
I like the pieces that invent words. They achieve more fun with greater ease.
And that Mesterton-Gibbons guy. He reminds me how anti-Shakespeareans love to find Bacon's name buried throughout the sonnets.
Veddy clevah, veddy clevah!

But in the main they remind me how much more fun I get writing verse than reading it.

Thanks, Owen.
Some of those poems are not so light!

Owen, your Uncle Ned poem this morning was a total delight. Many thanks for that gift.

And, OMK, your fluttering eyelids cracked me up.
