The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

FLN Wilbur ~ My last post last night was for you!

Today’s Jumble—
An important stepping stone
In EMT training is:

”Prepping Bones”

His tenth rib is cracked.
The main issue’s his left arm—
“Please gopher a splint!”

"Recovery Issues"

Jenny had refused to relent,
running the race--her tenth.
But as she ran, she tripped on a gopher,
and she now requires a chauffeur.
She has a splint on her broken bones,
making it hard to cross stepping stones.
But her healing is progressing a-pace,
and she'll soon run another race.

Yay, Jenny!
You picked another winner, Misty. I’m sure she would have prevailed—were it not for that intrusive geomyidae…
Here’s wishing her well in her eleventh.
But I do think it an obligation of the race’s sponsors to be sure the track is gopher-free before the start!

Another day where I am just now doing the jumble. Not too difficult, but I don't really see a pun anywhere. Yes, that is what those things are. So?

Ah well, I seem to be the gruumpy old woman counterpaet to Boomer's disgruntled old man.

No, you nailed it, Sandy. Except that literal stones (as in the picture) are also used figuratively at (other) times, there is no double sense conveyed in today's humble Jumble.

I see I have to catch yall up re. Charles (and Nora)

_feeble, grassy, yonder, opaque, infant, shrimp, a "sigh" for sore eyes.
----------
"Charles, said Nora, we're having a guest tonight for dinner
It's my cousin's girl, Lois ". "Oh, my, it's been years since I've seen her.
My memory's opaque but she was just an infant, merely a shrimp
Over the years she's moved hither and yon. I had a glimpse
But only feeble, She was in the park picnicking on the grass
But that was years ago. She'll be a sight for sore eyes, come what pass.

Better off
-------
The arrival of Lois was a welcome infusement of joy
For Charles and Nora and equally welcome was the boy
She'd brought with her. "What name, did you say? I was floored
To get your call. Dinner's so much better now that we have four"

"You must be thirty or more my dear", said Charles with a smile
"You're not far off, uncle" responded Lois, within a mile
Or two. And before I botch things let me introduce my friend Chet.
In my letter I mentioned big changes in my life and he's the best yet".

alias, hello, prance, busily, physical labor
--------
[Nora speaks]
Lois my dear , tell us about yourself, your mother was less than forthcoming
[Lois responds]
My life took a detour, prancing and dancing about, but now I'm on the upswing
I've been busily making positive changes, I no longer need an alias
The labor isn't physical , rather spiritual, I no longer feel like an alien

[Chet butts in]
I can vouch for Lois as a splendid power of example. My life
Was an unhappy one until she said 'Hello'. Now she'll become my wife

Scroll,Oppose,Though,Bisect,Assure,Squawk;
Brush with success
-----------
[Aunt Nora wants to catch up on the last five years since she last saw Lois]
"Lois, my dear, it's been so long , it seems like forever and a day"
"Let me assure you, ma tante, though I had a rough patch, today I'm okay
Rather than scroll through the bad , though it was hardly a cakewalk
Things are rosy today thanks to my program I've nothing to squawk
About. Best of all my road to recovery led to my meeting dear Chet
Our paths bisected when I saw his face in a bar and I
Said I'll bet
He too can benefit if he'd accept rather than oppose The principles that I've adopted and the path that I chose.

For failure can be painted with any broad brush
But success is a picture requiring a precise stylus.

habit, musty, fibber, lounge; Grubby.
-------------
"So Chet", Charles asks, "Tell us about your journey. Care to share?"
"It began in a grubby, musty lounge full of lushes, lizards and louts.
And there sipping a ginger ale sat Lois. How that came about
I'm still not sure. But at night , and I'm no fibber, I thank God she was there.

It wasn't necessarily my habit to hang out at such a place,
And Lois never went to seedy bars; it could only be God's grace

OMK, I just now went to look at your offering this morning, and once again, it cracked me up. So, here the Jumble worked its way not just into your verse, but also into your description of it as an important "stepping stone." I kept wondering how on earth you were going to work "gopher" into whatever you would be writing, and I had to go for a splint in your verse before I found it.

Wilbur, what an absolutely amazing production today. Thanks for reminding us of all the Jumble works of several days that you've worked into your Chet and Lois story, which had a particularly neat turn today with the couple having to tell their story to Charles and Nora. Fun to go through each stanza to look for the words! My goodness, the poetry on this blog just gets more and more interesting and varied and complicated. Thank you, all.

Wilbur, thanks for the info about Charles (and Nora). Is that a sideways reference to the Thin Man?? Kinda seems like it.

Looking forward to a possible AA wedding.

LOL, Sandy ~ Maybe "Nick" will officiate.

Wilbur ~ That is quite an epic romance. Thank you for filling in the role of "Charles." Lois and Chet have their own built-in audience, family members just like IRL.

Did you track down shoku?

Although I doubt, Sandy, the bar will be serving those infamous Nick & Nora Martinis, “shaken to waltz tempo.”

Sandyanon said...

Martinis aside, OMK, I would really miss Asta if he's not there.

OMK, I caught up to Sunday and now I know "Shoku"- I thought it might be a 15 beat poem. My son loves everything Japanese so I'll quiz him about shoku.

Also, as OMK commented, your tale of the 10k gopher run read smoothly. As did OMK himself. If you said "gofer" on the last line we'd know the reference

I just did Wednesday and , Sandy, get ready for a deep groan. And yes, the nuptials for our AA couple are around the corner.
