Mike's dinky and silly mishap
brought his family some infamy,
but it also gave him a batch
of possible solutions to see.
He learned it was important to exact
a promise that he wouldn't be attacked
if and when he stayed on the right track.

Now that our new security fence is erected, we are on the lookout for a pair of pups to come and live with us.
Wish us luck. Today my wife is going to see a rescued mutt, a chihuahua mix who was hit by a car but repaired by a generous vet who now wants to place him in somebody’s home.
We shall see.
We are also No. 2 on the waiting list for puppies about to be born to a Yorkie mom. The ultrasound says she’s ready to have 3 newbies, so our odds are very, very good. We hope for a little girl.

Can't wait to hear what you get, and what you name them, and how they'll enjoy their new home!
As you know, with my uphill slope on one side of my house, a security fence can't keep my critters safe from coyotes, so I'll just have to settle for my 60-or-so-year-old turtle Gophie (breed Gopherus Agassisi). She's unfortunately hibernating in the chilly weather right now, but I hope she'll pop out of her corner again on a sunny day. Pets are a gift, aren't they?

I am glad you have your turtle to keep you company.
I know you miss your dachshunds. The coyotes are a serious menace in the parts. Our civic authorities don't take them seriously enough to research and employ effective defensive measures. Since we lost our last two dogs to them, we have been communicating with neighbors about the best ways to protect pets (and children!) from attacks. We are adding taller lattice works where the Cty cannot touch them--just inside our new fence.
Good news! Janice came home with the little guy we were interested in. He has already been named--another perfect Chihuahua name: ¡Pedro! I am adding Paulo to it, so his full moniker will be "Pedro Paulo Fowler."
He is exploring his new home now, inside and out. He is very friendly, wagging a lot, quite calm. He comes right up to each of us, sniffs and licks. He has a limp, from his run-in with the car, but he gets round handily. Curiously, he hasn't barked yet, not once in two hours.
If I can figure a way to upload a photo of him, I will.

Hmmm. I have been Googling about Pedro. The more I research his markings, the less I am inclined to see Chihuahua in him.
Janice says she thinks he is part Pinscher, but as I look at photos of the miniature Pinschers ("Min Pins"), they look EXACTLY like him.
I think that is what he is, a Min Pin.
Now, we're thinking of changing his name--to something less Chihuahua-esque. I wonder what should it be...?

Here is a picture of our new dog. This little guy was rescued after being hit by a car. The rescue team presented him to us as a Chihuahua-mix named Pedro. But he has all the "eyebrows," the black-and-tan markings, and body shape of a miniature Pinscher.
Look for yourself; isn't this a Min Pin....?
We think he needs a different name. Any suggestions?

Oh my goodness, he is absolutely adorable! I knew he'd be cute, but he may be just about the cutest sweetie I've ever seen. One look, and I wanted to hug him and give him s little kiss on the top of his head. As for a name, after Pedro, "Penny" occurred to me. And then "Micky." Or how about just Peddy, like a sweet small pet and short for Pedro. It doesn't matter, whatever name you come up with will be just perfect--because he's perfect!

Thanks for your suggestions. I will let you know what we decide. I was leaning towards Germanic names, like Gunther and Hansel, but Janice favors American boy names.
We may meet somewhere in the middle.

OMK, why don't you save your German names for your next set of German shepherds?
As you know, my family is German, and we had dogs when I was growing up but it kills me that I can't remember their names. I doubt they were Gunther or Hansel, and of course there is always the crazy question of why on earth my 20 year old Austrian mother would have named her first child--yes, me--Margot! a totally French name in a family that had no French connections whatsoever. Go figure.
And then there's me, acquiring my last boy and girl dachshunds and what do I name them? Dusty and Misty. And, guess what: Misty turns out to become my silly web name. What a crazy world we live in when it comes to names!
I was not thinking of German names arbitrarily, but sticking to his heritage. The MinPin is a variant of the larger Doberman Pinscher, first bred in Germany by Louis Doberman.
I understand why the people who mistook him for a Chihuahua dubbed him Pedro. My very first dog was an Old English Sheepdog that I named Beowulf.
I favor names that go with one’s ethnicity, whether for people or pets.
Your name Margot is a lovely name. Although not specifically German, it is European, part of a post-war trend that has eased borders & lowered barricades in a harmonizing way.
As for ex-Pedro, we are leaning towards naming him Bruno, with the nickname Buddy. When you think it through, Buddy is not far from your Peddy suggestion—sticking to a labial plosive opener /B/, so similar to a /P/.
