(Reflections at the start of my 85th year…)

My Piscean birth stone’s an amethyst.
But I won’t be a propagandist,
to argue Feb blighters
outclass other writers.
You’ll just need to give it your damnedest.

Here’s a toast to my colleagues—a quaff!—
as I lay down my pen & knock off.
I’ll suspend a week’s array
of haiku, and pray
I’ve given no reason to scoff.

Sir Reele and Sir Rupp had a deal.
At the next tourney, which one would reel.
The prize they would split,
Then each would exit --
And as for the damsel, they'd each cop a feel!

OMK- if you read this later, I hope you are coping with the snow (or just stay inside). I know you Californians are not used to it.

On a sad note, Canadian actor Gordon Pinsent died at age 92. Did you know him at all? He played many roles at the Stratford Festival.

"Poor Proposal"

The couple were both aged twenty,
when in a lounge together they supped,
where he proposed to her, not gently,
but loud and quite abrupt.

If he had expressed some nuance
she might have considered it fair,
but his sudden, determined stance
did his proposal impair.

As time was running out
she stressed over what to choose.
Since his abruptness made her pout,
in the end she did refuse.

Canada in a Can- my ode to our iconic spring festival!

Sap is Running

Finally it’s springtime outside - cheer up!
The maples are tapped with buckets in pairs.
No time to lounge- sap is boiled to prepare.
Soon you may sample the flavourful syrup,
Like tasting wine, the nuances come to know,
Along with the golden to darker hues.
Twenty dollars a litre! -do not refuse;
Warm weather abruptly stops the flow.

Misty- what a sad tale of your poor suitor who was loud and abrupt. Obviously, the maiden was put off by this. That gal was wise for her age, since his overbearing attitude would have continued and probably grown worse, leading to friction in their marriage. But at the young age of twenty, they should be able to learn from this and move on.

Owen- I LOLed at the names of your two knights! What a deal to share the prize. But they might find that the Me Too movement will catch up with their antics. But maybe damsels are not there yet.

OMK-
My Cancer birthstone’s a ruby.
And I would never presume to be
A better writer
Than a February blighter,
I’ll just keep trying to see.

I’ll second the toast to our colleagues - a quaff!-
No, you’ve given no reason to scoff.
We hope you will speak,
With haikus brighten our week,
Energized by your time off.

OMK, you may not give us haikus on Sunday, but your verses are delight. I mean who else would rhyme "amethyst" and "propagandist"?

Loved your 'Reel' and 'Rupp' verse, Owen, very neat.

I celebrate your Spring festival with you, CanadianEh!. I would never scoff at sharing a quaff with you! Thanks for all those great verses!

And I may even try a Wordle, after my nap this afternoon. See you all later!
