FLN, Owen ~ Enjoyed your play(s) on โ€œWag the Dogโ€ yesterday! Thanks for the historical perspectives.

Todayโ€™s Jumble haiku:

โ€œFixed Cat Scrum?โ€

Dimly formed efforts
rarely excel. Theyโ€™re as jinxed
as herded felines.

In "The Importance Of Being Earnest",
The protagonist is quite ernest.
Oscar Wilde laid a plot
Whose sense was naught,
But with laugh-lines was well furnished!

Orijinz:
She ran the show, that mattered,
Still Lady Gaga muttered,
She wouldn't let
An iron gauntlet
Leave her uninspired!

My apologies, I misremembered the protagonists name in TIoBE, which will make that one harder to guess. Mixed it up with the comic strip Frank And Ernest.

Owen- Orijinz took me 44 seconds today. I thought it was going to be โ€œgauntletโ€ from your poem, plus they had โ€œcombingโ€ instead of โ€œcombiningโ€ which slowed me down.

I remembered that comic strip too, when the W appeared.
OMK- so tequila was your final choice.

The โ€˜fraidy-cat considers whether another aquatic maneuver might be more successful.
Fin Kicks - Um?

Her effort to learn to swim
Was frankly just on a whim,
And hopes of succeeding grew dim.
Trying the gamut from breast stroke to crawl,
She concluded that safety should be above all.
She would never excel or even shine,
Since she was an aquaphobic feline.

CanadianEh! said...

OMK- you put that Cat into your title. And your haiku with the image of the โ€œherded felinesโ€ made me smile.
I was almost stymied trying to Spooner that J reveal. But I was rather pleased with my result, and managed to get all the J words, plus the W and Orijinz words into my poem. That may not happen again for a while. The Muses were favourable today.

Iโ€™ll double-dare Owen to try to match it.

"Pet Present"

Johnny lived dimly alone,
and to depression was prone.
But he was lucky to have a chum
who lived on a fixed income.

This friend decided to make an effort
Johnny to a better life transport.
And so he bought his pal a sweet feline
that quickly made John's spirits shine.

This friendly gift did all others excel
and Johnny is now happy and well.

Misty- Poor depressed Johnny was fortunate to have a friend who knew that cats (and dogs) can cure depression. I too liked the feline/shine rhyme. Chum/fixed income was good too.

Ol' Man Keith said...

Johnnyโ€™s chum, Misty, he with the โ€œfixed income,โ€ is mighty fortunate. Most of those with actual fixed incomes, especially seniors living on retirement pensions, are in a bad way in these years of inflation. They would have little to spare to help a poor depressive like Johnny.
Thatโ€™s one of the reasons I was moved to change the โ€œfixedโ€ in my title to a more helpful meaning, dealing instead with kittiesโ€™ ovaries and a more manageable feline demographic.

Again, I was glad to be of service in the Wordle capacity. Now I can be Frank about it.

CanadianEh! ~ I admit, I had to look two or three times to appreciate your title. But in the end I got itโ€”and enjoyed it, too!
Imagine trying to get cats to swim! About as weird as herding them, I do believe. Iโ€™d have loved to witness the attempts. I can visualize the breast stroke easily enough, and (excuse me) the dog paddle. The funniest must have been a side stroke.
And yes, you got the words all inโ€”covered all your basesโ€”excellent work!

Owen ~ Not to worry. Jack is Jack in the country and always Ernest (quite!) in town.
And in the final scene, it turns out (Spoiler Alertโ€ฆ)
Jack was actually baptized as Ernest!

CanadianEh!, I hope your sweet swimmer becomes more comfortable with her maneuvers, and maybe even joins an aquatic team down the road at some point. I was terrified of being in the water when I was young, and it was only in my teens that some friends finally got me to be more comfortable and even learn how to do very simple swimming. So your swimmer reminds me of myself.
