Todayโs Jumble haiku:
(One of the little known requisites for a burying ground or cemetery is drainage. The land cannot be arid, of course, but the soil may not be wet.
Todayโs poem encapsulates old wisdom, from the days when corpses were interred naked to todayโs fancy coffins; and from a time of almost random weather to this era of seeming rain & thunder contractsโฆ)
โIn an Octet of Nonet Casesโ
Locales for shrouds are
rarely runny or damp. โDryโ
is key for grave sites.
~ OMK
The Blue Jays owner is in behind-the-scene bidding for pitching/hitting phenom Ohtani. Will the offer be enough to get him?
Wonder on Track
The deal was shrouded in secrecy, cunning;
Even the meeting locale was unknown.
An octet of advisors to direct the running,
A sharp pen to sign under the terms shown
Before the hot prospect was flown.
OMK- you ran with the literal idea of those grave clothes. Practical advice, although most of us donโt want to think about preparing for our demise. Having to clear up someone elseโs estate, gives us the incentive to make things easier for our heirs.
I attempted to Spooner the title, and was sent in the sports direction. The latest local sports news is full of speculation about the super secret negotiations occurring. The money being offered is staggering (and could house many of yesterdayโs homeless!).
"Tough Word"
A word in today's Jumble
made me want to grumble.
It was easy to rhyme 'runny'
with words like 'honey' and 'funny.'
And I also found words for 'octet,'
like 'debt' and 'pet' and 'vet.'
It even made me proud
that 'cloud' rhymed with 'shroud.'
But 'locale' was really tough
and by then I had had enough.
Hope it makes for a decent contract
that this verse with all these words I packed.
Took me four tries to get the Wordle, but at least I got it. It's been quite a while since I tried one:

Yes, graves are a tough topic, OMK, but your haiku handled it beautifully.
Clever verse about racing, CanadianEh!. At least that's what I thought at first. But I looked up the Blue Jays and gather they are a Canadian professional baseball team. So I'm still not sure if your verse is about a race between runners or runners in a game. Forgive my terrible knowledge of sports. I've never been a runner, but I do walk up and down my hallway twice or down my back patio one of those times if the weather is nice.
Good work on the Wordle, Misty. My clue was very obscure, and probably not much help to you.
Keep it up. Some days are definitely harder than others.
Yes, we will affirm your contract, since you did manage to get all the J words into your poem, even if not in your conventional manner. It really was quite an interesting creation.
Perhaps another day, you might not try to rhyme all the J words. I sneak them into the middle of some lines, and then I can pick another word that rhymes more easily to put at the end of the line. I have always been a little amazed at all your rhyming couplets.
Misty- I can see why you are confused. I was having trouble including all the J words, but unlike you, my word problem was with โrunnyโ. I turned it into โrunningโ in desperation. In my poem, the advisors were supposed to be directing the running of the secret, high-stakes negotiations to sign this baseball player.
There is a basis in current sports event to this story since rumours are flying that Ohtani may be leaving the LA Angels and signing with the Blue Jays, our Toronto (and only Canadian) Major League Baseball team.
EXCELLENT conclusion on Wordle, Misty!
Congrats on your bravery for striking out on your own!
And thank you and CEh for todayโs pieces.
My apologies for running short on time for more detailed commentsโฆ
