Spider genes were taken and combined with those of goat,
Thus the nannies produce silk-strands stronger than a rope!
Genetic modification has its fans and has its foes.
What it might some day produce is what nobody knows.

What might come in the future? Fear and hope divide us.
Could curing cancer come with designer germs inside us?
Would weaponizing rabbits leave us prone to greater fears,
That fur static could produce electric bolts from rabbit ears?

Would mutant D.N.A., whipped up by scientists at Mars
Grow hybrid cocoa-peanut plants blooming Snickers bars?
Could cow and corn be bred akin, in Kentucky fields suburban,
With udders that gave spirits, so they'd be beasts of bourbon?

Do you think they would be kind enough to cross both red cherry and cacao trees with cows to produce vanilla ice cream with cherries and dark chocolate bits? Might not be healthy but it would surely lift my spirits!

Since difficulty of these is so subjective, I guess they really can't make them progressively harder through the week. I couldn't possibly have done Fri or Sat XW w/o red letters, but had a lot more trouble with J earlier in the week. For some reason these words just popped out - didn't even have to write anything down, and finished in 2:17 w/950 points - my fastest time & highest score ever! Maybe because I did the XW first?

I'd buy that!

Mike, I think Sundays tend to be more intricate with longer solutions because of having six clue words, and that can add to their difficulty. But I thought this jumble was interesting because only four words generated so many letters.

Thank you Owen and Sandyanon! I got the four clues without any problem, very easily, but struggled with the solution. So many letters, no As, etc. Just couldn't get it. But your discussions immediately popped the answer into my head and I got it! Now I feel a bit more on the same wavelength with my Jumble partners. Many thanks.

I also expected a Saturday J to be a stumper but was able to unscramble all the words mentally. Even the final solve didn't take too long. It's amazing what one silky strand can produce. Owen, top notch verses.

Yesterday on NPR Science Friday, I learned that because of lack of gravity, in space water cannot flow down to plants so they must devise a different way to inject the water into the roots.

My fave images are the bolts from rabbit ears (reminding me of getting shocked quite literally adjusting set-top TV antennas as a kid) ... and of course your "beasts of bourbon"!

Lucina - glad to know you're a fellow public radio listener. Funny, I was just thinking about that before the broadcast, wondering how I was going to water my plants in space...

Owen, you were poetic magic today! Thanks!

Beasts of bourbon was delicious!
