|| blimp, facet, deafen, verbal, bent on fame. || render, wrench, joyful, ninety, doughy, invade, hung on every word.

The circus is coming, the circus is coming,
The circus is coming to town!
A blimp with a banner displaying the manner
Is circling round and around!
A man will be shot from a cannon to mark
When opening day has begun!
The noise of the blast will deafen those massed,
That big shot is a son-of-a-gun!

The trapeze artists will display some facets
Of acrobatics to cheer!
Thru the air they will fly without batting an eye,
Or showing a quiver of fear!
The lion tamer stands, with his verbal commands,
He will make the big cats obey!
They could take his head off with a badly timed cough,
But that won't happen today!

The clowns with a bent for their humor events
Make people laugh at their antics!
They'll all run around with their pants falling down,
And shooting seltzer in panic!
The Ringmasters rules this collection of fools
With a voice that rings to proclaim
That this three-ring circus is meeting its purpose,
With wonder and laughter its fame!

The invaders had come, the natives had not a chance.
Resistance was formed to monkey-wrench their advance.
Of each hundred population, ninety-eight were complacent.
They weren't that affected by the government replacement.

The fat, doughy shopkeepers had nothing to gain.
They rendered their services to all just the same.
But journalists and broadcasters and teachers in schools
Were coerced to become invasion propaganda tools.

Some patriots stood and denounced the foreign devils.
For their words they were hung, as subversives and evil.
But every victory for the resistance, whether large or small
Brought more joyful hope that the conquerors would fall!

The poem today is pre-PETA, obviously.
The 5566 puzzle is available first, so that's the one inspiring the first poem. The 666666 puzzle is responsible for the second poem.

Once again working on-line helped by signaling that I'd completed a word (#3 in the daily) while moving the tiles around when I hadn't realized the transient arrangement was really a word! Ironic, since I'm so extremely hard-of-hearing!

Terrific poems, Owen, many thanks. I struggled with the last item in this Jumble and in the end cheated and looked it up in the paper. But if David and Jeff ever checked in on our Jumble blog, I would tell them that I thought this Jumble was an amazing and clever delight. I just loved it, even if I didn't get it all.

I used a hint on words 3 & 4, but all else came easily.

I can smell the popcorn, and candy apples. Thanks for taking me to the big top.

I was so preoccupied with the crossword blog today that I found it difficult to focus on the jumble. To add to that, I misread a "y" on the Sunday jumble as a "v" and ended up with the wrong word and letters.
Good thing there's always tomorrow!
