Live With Today’s Jumble haiku:
“Learn This Vital Fact”
Rockefeller’s niece
was so rich you could not tell
her wealth in dollars.
~ OMK
#689
As far as I can tell,
when you use the right dose,
it makes a fine cuppa
from Maine to Calcutta.
(Not Chanel
— but so close.)
~ OMK
Desmond had a good life, and appreciated it. He had a wealth of friends, and was respected.
His health was good, he stayed vital and fit --
Sound as a dollar, and sounder than expected!
There were times nostalgia crept in his fold.
Family and friends from generations gone.
Some he simply lost track of as he grew old,
Others went to seek the heavenly dawn.
He'd had no children to comfort his December,
Altho a niece to welcome him for family feasts.
There were many happy times to remember.
Far more draws and successes than defeats!
Life was something he had learned to live with.
It was good, both past and future, he'd admit!
Coffee is the nectar of the dawn.
Ovaltine for bedtime is drawn.
Chocolate, I say,
Once every day,
And milk and water any time you wan' !

Starbucks Frappuccino or McDonald’s Cocoa?
As you start to earn,
It is vital to learn
To live within your means,
Starting in your teens.
Proper use of wealth
Will enhance your health,
But blowing it to the breeze,
Can bring you to your knees.
A dollar a day put aside
Can leave you satisfied.
"Peace for our Niece"
Our niece sadly lost her lease
and had to surrender her keys.
She was not in the best of health
and her family had little wealth.
So we decided to donate the dollar
she would need to become a scholar.
Going back to school was a whole new turn
because she loved to study and learn.
And the job she secured with her new degree
has made her feel vital and happy and free.
She now sends us her thanks every year,
letting us know that she holds us dear.
Excellent responses all around to today's J-words!
CanadianEh! ~ If I read your title correctly, you favor the McDonalds product over Starbucks' on the basis of economy. Yes?
Your poem's advice to the young earner on the "proper use of wealth" seems to suggest as much.
As I have never ordered a drink of any flavor from Starbucks, I cannot speak of their prices, but I have a hunch...
Misty ~ The niece in your poem has benefited from her family's trust that her degree would lead to a higher-paying future. How fortunate she was (as were they!) that it all worked out--especially in this day & age when it apparently is NOT working out for so many college graduates.
I think our own campus (UCI) is fortunate in that so many first generation students are following new American family's advice and going for STEM majors. They then are among the few earning enough in their jobs to pay off those horrendous loans!
(Er... your and my students--in the arts and lib. arts--may not fare quite so well.)
Owen's Desmond has enjoyed a happy life--or, shall we say, the odds have fallen mainly in his favor, as the evaluation of his time on this planet seems to be the sum of careful calculations.
While he did not score in the offspring dept., he did well enough with his health and, overall, managed to see more OK and/or "favorable" outcomes than "non. "
If this be hair-splitting, so be it, eh?

Thanks to Owen...

I thought I'd done Wordle last night
Misty check Owen's poem and shoot for genius
WC
Wilbur, you may be right. Maybe living with the ordinary, and thankfully accepting it and appreciating it and making the best of it, is a kind of genius.
Misty ~ Just putting in a plug for yrs trly...
I scored another one-liner, following the Forbes hint.
You might also wanna check my 6-line jingle,
(Wordle) #689 @1:39--to score your own one-line W-victory.

Ol' Man Keith, I really liked your Jumble haiku. Amazing how you worked all four Jumble words along with a solution word into such a brief verse, and even added Rockefeller! I guess that's what you meant by your Forbes hint--billionaires! Fair enough since the Jumble included "wealth" and "dollar".
I liked your six line verse too, but didn't understand what was in the "cuppa" until I looked up Chanel: oh yes, perfume. You're more up on this classy stuff than I am!
Once again, I am late getting back to comment.
OMK- that J reveal was impossible for a title. Instead you combined it into your backstory and title (plus snuck a J word into your title).
Your W poem is a great combo of clues. Chanel is great. (See my note to Misty)
Owen- genius acrostic for the W, including all the beverages.
I loved your Desmond poem. Quite realistic that he should review his life, appreciating both the good and bad parts, and being grateful for his niece. But it is hard to see the loss of family and friends in your age bracket. Nostalgia indeed.
Misty- what a wonderful turnaround for that niece. How kind of her aunt/uncle to invest into her life, not only money, but I’m sure encouragement as well. And I think OMK has a point about the degrees that lead to jobs. (Whether degrees should only be valued by that scale is another whole discussion.)
WC- Genius indeed, those W clues. LOL. But. Really like Misty’s mistaken comment about the genius in Desmond’s acceptance of life.
OMK- yes, my hint for the day was for those who wonder where all their money has gone before the end of the month. Looking at expenses and seeing where a bag lunch, cheaper or fewer coffee excursions, can make a difference in the budget. Now, it is another thing if your wealth allows, to enjoy a good cappuccino.
Misty- WC is referring to Owen’s second poem with his W results. See my note to him above for a clue to today’s Wordle. Yes, Chanel is a perfume, but OMK hinted at the designer’s first name (brilliant clue).
NOT Chanel No. 5!

Misty & CanadianEh! ~
I'm grateful to you, Misty, for appreciating my haiku and taking the time to check on "cuppa." The word is really Brit slang, an elision of "'cup of' tea."
And I thank you, CEh, for boosting my clue for Misty.
For today's hint to Misty, it is important, I guess, not to get too stuck on the idea of the "right dose" filling a cup with Chanel parfum!
My hints always depend on what has been left out.
CEh narrows it down by pointing to the part of the designer's name that's missing.
~ OMK
