"We must hasten", said Gandalf. "Enough of elvish jargon.
Elrond, King, awaits, and his lovely daughter Arwen".
Amidst mugs of beer and wafers of toast
Elves sang and laughed and all listened to the host.

"The necromancer has arisen and wants all to comply
Behind walls in Dol Guldur, emits his roving eye
In his view virtue is paper to be consumed in fire
He's on the move. The future's dire."

[Gandalf speaks]

"I can lead you as far as the edge of Mirkwood
Then our paths diverge. It's to be understood
That only Saruman and the Wizard Council can bring
An end to that viper Sauron and the havoc of his sting".

I thought it would be harder than it was, looking at the clue letters. But they were easy to unscramble, and then the solution came a word at a time, starting with the last, more obvious one. The pun was kind of clever, but, you know, I wonder -- if the solution comes first, then often the cartoon setup is kind of awkward. I suppose avoiding the solution words makes it so.

Hoping for a poem or two, from Owen and/or Wilbur, that is!!

Well, wow! Wilbur was poetizing as I was writing. Amazing to be able to fit those diverse words into that story. Kudos, Wilbur.

I had no problems with the four J's and the solution dropped along with a bunch of V's and P's.

Perhaps it's winter and the boys are not able to watch grass growing(or exhibition baseball).

Hope all is well with you Owen.

PS. We are foreshadowing today.

Well, I had trouble with the third word, even though I had a pretty good idea about the solution without it, and so had two of the letters, but not the third. Had to come to the blog for help and Wilbur's poem gave me that tough third word. And then Ol'Man Keith's smashed guys confirmed that I had the right solution (hope they get busted, anyway).

Sounding grumpy is just a joke--Wilbur's poem and OMK's weed guys are a total delight, and I found the cartoon with those guys in different hats and mustaches watching their big TV screen a real pleasure. And I loved the solution!

Like Sandyanon, I too hope Owen checks in with us soon. Have a good Friday, everybody.

Sorry I'm not in much of a creative mood today. My brother-in-law David is in a medically induced coma. I only met him once very briefly, and a couple desultory conversations online, but he and Bren are very close, so she's upset, and when she's upset, I'm upset. He was in the hospital for diabetic complications and had a stroke. No covid connection. He's the same age as I am. His wife was in the Philippines when the pandemic hit, so she's stuck there, he's in San Diego, and Bren is his geographically closest relative here in Santa Fe. Their only other sibling is Bren's twin sister in Indiana, and none of the three ever had any children.

Really sorry, Owen. We hear so much about the coronavirus that people's other health problems tend to get lost. And being away from family is one of the most difficult parts of this.

But I was glad to hear that it wasn't illness that kept you from poetry. Let us all stay well.

I'm really grateful for this little group.

How sad to hear about your brother-in-law's dire experience, and the sadness and difficulty this is causing Bren and her family. So sorry to hear this, and our hearts go out to all of you.

I echo Sandy and Misty. Best wishes and stay strong.
