|Smiley face| _pledge, social, dressy, phobia, wrench, apiece, on a slippery slope.

The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

Nice pun! Literally AND figuratively logical. Poor guy.

Happy St. Stephen’s Day, y’All!
Pick up loose rocks, & spare a saint!

Reminder: I’ll be taking the day off.
I may check in as audience …

"Relationship"

Sue's engagement began on a slippery slope
because she wasn't sure she could socially cope.
Her partner was handsome and dressy,
and neat and not at all messy.
Colorful jokes he'd sometime wrench--
yes, he was great and quite a mensch.

Her marriage phobia did finally cease
the day they pledged to sign a lease.
They exchanged a set of keys,
and promised to live in peace.
Their relationship now is no longer a mess,
and Sue happily does her marriage bless.

Good to see Sue’s no-name partner was a “Mensch.” She may have been insecure, but she knew how to pick her guy.
Your rhymes are working well, with the one “dirty knees” exception. (You know where!)
Good for you—holding down the entire responsibility for Sunday versification!

Many thanks, OMK, but please explain the "dirty knees" reference--my memory is terrible and I don't remember what that is?

Remember my telling you about the tape I made, English for Japanese students? When the script had me contrasting “dirty knees” with “dirty niece”?
Which of the following does not belong? “Cease/lease/keys/peace”?!

Thanks for explaining, OMK.
I guess it's the "keys" that are my dirty knees.
