A classic. Here is a familiar, rather childish love poem:
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet
And so are you.
Here it is, adjusted to emphasize meter over rhyme. (Rhyme isnโt lost, but is internalized, downplayed.)
Roses are red, love,
violets are blue, and the
angels in heaven on high
know I love you.
Here it is, adapted to haiku format:
Roses are indeed
red, and violets are blue.
Angels sing: youโre mine.
Finally, here it is, for me to post on December 17:
Roses are red,
violets are blue.
Angels in heaven
all know I wonโt be posting anything else on my Sunday day off.

"Farm Living"
The farmer's wife was not unwise
and was respected by the guys.
She took time to feed the cattle,
and learned how to ride in a saddle.
She was careful never the locks to unhook
and followed regulations by the book.
She also cooked flavorful waffles for her staff
and told them jokes and made them laugh.
And she assured them that they would not fall
if to fix the roof tiles they climbed up the wall.
Many pleasures on her farm she did fashion
because living there had become her passion.
It may be unwise to battle,
Or unhook your apron,
Over the merits of
Beef from Wagyu cattle.
The flavour of waffles and bacon,
I can assure you
Never falls out of fashion!
OMK- thank you for those delightful versions of Roses are Red. (I thought of the Christmas angels at first glance!)
Misty- your farmers wife was a very multitalented person, who could not only ride, feed the cattle, and close the gates behind her, but could also cook, tell jokes, and encourage the farm staff. All she needs S the Wordle to go with her waffles.
Iโm glad I made it here today.
Ol' Man Keith, it's always a delight to see you posting on your Sunday-off day, and today your red/violet/angel verses were a special pleasure. Thank you so much for this Sunday gift.
CanadianEh!, your very flavorful verse made me look forward to a waffle and bacon breakfast with you one of these days. That too would be a gift!
Thank you both for cheering up our Sunday!
