How nice to see the full color cartoon again! Sept. 6 Jumble in all its glory. Thank you, Owen!

Four easy clue words and only 9 letters from which to extract a solution. This has really been an easy week--so far.
It's like the gentle spelling bee where the contestants were offered simple warm-up words for starters--like, "Spell 'sonnet''," for example.

Er, correction: "Spell 'sonnet'," for example.

Who would write a novel extolled by the world?
Face acidic critics with petty piques unfurled?
Feel the agent's usury of pennies from each dime,
While publishers extort more, profiting big time!

The pressure to repeat, to do as well again,
The onus to do better, the title to maintain!
Fans, whose disappointment will lay heavily on you
When to measure up, you fail on the follow thru.

Claimants on your time, your fame and reputation.
All things that you must do, to meet expectation.
Who would dwell upon it, if this were understood?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I would.

Love the poem! The litany of drawbacks means nothing to the writer, trapped by his compulsion. And how are you, Owen? Steady, if slow, improvement, I hope.

Anyhow, the jumble was not difficult. The fourth clue didn't just unscramble itself, but reorganizing the letters soon brought it out, and once all the letters were there for the solution, it was obvious. Average funny pun, I thought.

Delightful poem, Owen, with a sympathetic theme on NOVEL writers to go with this morning's Jumble. I actually did have to give the first and fourth words a little thought before I got them, but once all the letters were there, the solution popped right up. And it was a clever and cute way of ending the cartoon with that messy nest.

Glad I have no problem spelling 'sonnet,' Ol'Man Keith.

Actually, in case acidic critics were watching, OMK corrected the quotation marks.

I started to write "cicadia" for #4.

And how about, re. FLN, "For all intents and purposes" I would.

I had a habit of using that phrase. My old work team started mimicking it.
