There are several other Jumble blogs, but the ones I checked all started off by listing the answers. In this blog, answers can be either hinted at or masked by burying them in comments. No overt spoilers!
The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are the lifeblood of a blog!
Read the comments, and reply to them if you are so moved!
Madonna was the Type of Girl, being realistic, Who thought it was a crisis, being out of lipstick! She was a vamp intent on empire in a bloodless way, Unlike a mythic vampire, by garlic matter held at bay!
Romance didn't have a role in her style of life. Admirers who had no pelf she wouldn't look at twice! To woo her took some mettle -- and gold or silver, too. Diamonds were favored, but rubies or pearls would do.
A cool poem. We should all pay close (or closer) attention to your verses. I struggled a bit with this solution, and only after I pinned it to the mat, I realized I should have cared more about what kind of a girl Madonna is. You paint a clear picture! ~ OMK
Background items are often better hints than the foreground items. this one not so much unless you notice them very carefully. On the wall, a photo of the couple with a very expensive sports car, the dog is a greyhound or related breed. Is the right edge a plinth or curtain? A fur rug?
Ah, I just posted on the Crossword blog that I had trouble posting on the Jumble, but here it is. Let me know if you get this.
Just wanted you to know that I had trouble only with the solution, and although I now see how Owen and Ol'Man Keith wanted to help me, I'm afraid it just didn't work for me. So I had to look it up--clever, clever answer to that cartoon and its conversation.
Well, I got all the four Jumble answers without any problem, but that long thirteen letter solution just eluded me. I hoped your poem would help, Owen, and although it was fun to read and confirmed that my four items were correct, it didn't help much with the solution.
Owen, I just found this--the earlier message I was going to send you, but all is well.
Madonna had a big hit back in the 90's with "Material Girl". There are quite a few rap songs about "Materialistic", but the lyrics I bothered to look up were too obscene for my tastes. Then there was the fantasy trilogy "His Dark Materials" (with the armored polar bears, if you saw the movie of the first book, "The Golden Compass") that I considered referencing.
Misty & Lucinda, to recap discussion from a few days ago, comments are getting posted in a pop-up window now, and after you close the pop-up, you'll need to 🔄 refresh 🔁 the page to see your comment appear. Blogger has limited ways of commenting, and I felt the pop-up, despite this shortcoming, was the best available option for this blog. Now if I could just figure out how to get "Post a Comment / Newer Post / Home / Older Post" below to show up in huge, bold, magenta letters!
Thank you, Owen, for elucidating! I do find that my posts are published. Today's Jumble I thought would be daunting when I saw the long row of blanks but it was really easy once I had all the necessary letters in front of me. Though I didn't need it, the reference to Madonna's song is apropos!
Yes, I was out today so am late posting, but I also found the clues generally easy. And once I decided I could spell realistic incorrectly so as to give me the rest of the letters I needed, the solution came out very straightforwardly.
I caught the Madonna clue up front, and that reinforced the solution. Liked the poem, Owen, and I well remember that hit of hers.
