Timmy was a normal lad, with normal things to do.
Taking out the trash bags, and lawn keeping, too.
Thinning out the weeds, and mowing down the grass.
Raking leaves into a mound (then jumping in the mass)!
For pets he had a rabbit hutch, needing to be clean.
His Dad had made it out of wood and window screen.
When he put some lettuce in the rabbits would hop to it.
He also kept the bird feeder filled with seeds and suet.
Indoors he sometimes helped his mother make a cake.
In school he thought that mathematics was opaque.
Yes, Timmy was a normal lad, living in the suburbs.
Few live lives like that today, none that I've discovered.
The life described in your appealing poem, Owen, doesn't seem all that unusual to me. Of course, I have no personal experience with young boys today, since even my grandsons are adults. But surely there must be more than a few boys who have chores at home, take care of pets, do things with their parents and find some of their school subjects less agreeable than others.
I suppose they probably also watch tv, play computer games, and text their friends, i.e., are heavily into electronic pastimes. Is that what you mean?
Anyway, what really puzzles me about today's jumble is the two extra boxes in the solution. Am I missing something obvious? The seven clue letters fit right into the first seven boxes and make perfect punny sense. What are the other two boxes for?
Ok, if there's an obvious reason for them, which I just didn't see, I am going to feel soooo stupid!
Delightful Jumble poem, Owen, with all the clue words and the solution nicely fitted in. I breezed through this one without any problems whatsoever, and got the solution almost instantly. I wonder if the Jumble editors are starting to have the Jumbles start out easily on Mondays and get harder as the week progresses, like the crossword puzzles do? Anyway, this one was a lot of fun, and Sandyanon, I'm not sure what those two extra boxes are, about which you have questions. Hope you get a helpful answer.

This one was as easy as breathing. I'm guessing the extra boxes are a typo.

The two extra boxes are indeed a typo of sorts. I use each days image as the template for the next days, and yesterday's was so long, and today's so short, that the masking didn't stretch far enough. My fault, which I will (belatedly) correct.
I once asked Mr.Hoyt on his Facebook page and he confirmed the puzzles are intended to get harder as the week progresses. Personally, they all seem equally hard/easy to me, except for the Sunday 6x6.
I disliked the last two lines of today's poem as well, but needed some sort of conclusion. It's not a good one. And I didn't have any more seeds to cramp my style either. I really ought to rewrite them, and with your prompting, Sandy, I shall try to do so.
Replace those last two lines with
He didn't yet like girls, he thought they all had cooties.
Well, except for Suzie, who he thought was a cutie!
Not as good as a concluding wrap-up, but much better as an expression of the poem's gestalt.
So Timmy's on the way to adulthood, and Suzie is the 'canary in the coal mine'! LOL LOL.
P.S. I didn't dislike your last line, just questioned it.
I zipped through this only pausing to write words down . And the solution popped right out too .
#4 might be hard but a Q cuts down on the possibilities.
Speaking of Math.. We have a start date, 1/21/2008 but we don't know the date . 19-08=11. Three leap years brings it to 14 . Hence the date was a Monday. Reversing we have
