Famous historical words ~
"Look, I'm your pal, Mick Jagger, and I'm just telling you: You better be hot out there. I wanna see you shake some moves. I had tickets to the Kingston Trio tonight, but instead I came to see YOUR band!"

Build a wall, at least a fence
Th help the copper's in defense.
Hound alien illegals
Like hand-trained beagles
Before they dabble in legal defence.

Wilbur -- You seem to have forgotten, yesterday, that the distinguishing characteristic of Hobbits was their extremely large hairy feet! That, every bit as much as the dragon, was what made yesterday's Jumble words cry out for a Hobbit story! (Also why you'll find no Leprechauns in The Shire, since Leprechauns are all cobblers, and Hobbits wear no shoes.)

Appreciate your brief but stellar poem, Owen. FLN, I believe that Wilbur did mention hairy feet in his poem. I noticed it especially.

This jumble today was pretty easy, and the solution strikes me as more as just a normal sentence than a pun or joke. I get the connection to card playing, but still...

I'm nitpicking again?

Woohoo! Got all four words and the Jumble solution without any problem. And found it all very enjoyable, especially the neat background for the card players to enjoy. Add to that a fun gloss from Ol'Man Keith and a fun poem from Owen, and the weekend is off to a good start. Now all we need is a fun Wilbur poem. Have a good Saturday, everybody.

I don't know about you guys, but all my activities for the rest of the month have been canceled due to the corona virus. Can't lead my class on W.B. Yeats at the Senior Center, even though I had the slide show all ready, and the AAUW literary luncheon is canceled too, as well as other stuff. It's going to be a lonely few weeks just hanging around home, but my heart goes out to all the people affected by the virus.

Thanks Sandy, OMK does point out the twofold jumble lead-in to my Hobbit tale
Continuing:

The dozen dwarves were hounding Bilbo to decide
A share of the treasure, great, but he could not abide
Being fenced in by orcs, trapped by trolls.
For his druthers, a safe and comfy Hobbit hole.

Now dwarves were miners. Copper, iron, and gold.
They'd dabbled in diamonds too. Truth be told
Cast out by Smaug the dragon they'd wandered through the land
Following the would be king. Who said: "Beforehand,

Let me make it clear: jewels and trinkets are fine
But remember this on your life. The Arkenstone is mine!"

Well, Misty, I stick quite close to home most of the time anyway, Not lunching with friends, though.
Worst news for me is that my Navy grandson who has been studying online, is due to graduate from Penn State May 9, and was flying back to walk the ceremony in person. Now the DOD has cancelled all military leave travel til May 11 (at least!). So depressing.
I know that's minor compared to other things, but it has made us all very sad.

Misty, if you know one tech savvy person (younger the better) he could video and post your Yeats presentation and post it on line.

All your seniors would need to do is be able to login and click a button. YouTube is fairly seamless for that kind of thing.

My Bilbo post and yours were synchronous today. Btw,

I see FIRENZE and VENEZIA were old hat vs LEIPZIG. Then again Italy was part of the old Austria-Hungary sphere at one time.

How's Austria doing vis a vis Covid 19?

Misty ~ Sorry to read of your cancellations. It can be a real bummer staying away from events and projects you were so looking forward to. We already live a pretty isolated existence, so it isn't really new for me. I will miss occasional visits from ex-students. (I had to cancel one such visitor today.)
I rarely go out these days. We will just postpone going to restaurants for a while. The only excursions my wife and I need to make are to keep doctors' appointments.
Ironic, isn't it--to stay inside most of the time except when we go sit in crowded waiting rooms with other, usually elderly, folk?

Sandy ~ I am really very sorry that your grandson will miss one of the most important passages of his life. It saddens me too, to think of anyone missing out on such an event. I wonder if Penn State (along with other schools) might postpone its ceremony?

Wilbur ~ I think you have credited me with Owen's advice to you.
Again, your verses have that rollicking rhythm I so enjoy!

Oh dear, what a sad effect for your grandson and his family--so sorry to hear that. Wonder if Penn State might postpone the graduation ceremony to a later date?

Wilbur, I think the Laguna Senior Center will schedule my lecture when the virus bans are lifted down the road, so I will just wait it out. But thank you for the helpful and interesting suggestion. And, you just reminded me I should e-mail my Austrian family and find out how they're managing.

Wilbur, forgot to say, I loved your poem. And Ol'Man Keith, you're right about the irony of having doctor's appointments probably be our most dangerous outings, but also the ones we're least likely to cancel.

OMK, I had noticed Owen's remark about how I'd like the next day's J. Sure enough, there's DRAGON. But I hadn't thought of HAIRY and simply used it as it fit.

Heck, Bilbo was being asked to go on a HAIRY quest. And yes, even those Hobbit feet are hairy.

Thanks all of you for the encouragement. And yes, I do try "rollicking" if nothing else. I have to reread "The Hobbit"; I prefer to tell my tale from the book. I am grateful for Mr Jackson for accomplishing the incredible task of putting Tolkien on the Big Screen. And, considering how profits are garnered in Cinema can't begrudge him a little license and melodrama.

Ps, I've quoted myself to myself (I don't get around much either) that there's essentially one Hollywood Movie with verious vehicles to drive it Fili the Dwarf and an Elvan princess fall in love and have a tragic denouement in Part III as any Hwd flick must have.

I found "The Hobbit" on line. Re HAIRY...

(Hobbits)wear no shoes, because their feet grow natural leathery soles and thick warm brown hair like the stuff on their heads (which is curly)

FYI
