My goodness, no comments yet on a Monday morning? Hope you are both okay, Sandy and Ol'Man Keith.

Not my favorite thing, to have to start with a weak poem, but here it is:

"Dog Training"

Henry was happy he found
a sweet little hound in the pound.
The pooch was a huge hit
until Henry he bit.
This required some change,
even worse than for mange.
For this new phase of entry
dog training was elementary.
With much practice and treats
the pup managed new feats.
Now he's again a big hit,
well behaved, kind, and fit.

"Pub Gossip"
The Squire tired of poachers making free of his land.
He would soon change their fate.
He spread word that violators henceforth were banned
and posted a hound at each gate.
From entry to postern, these beasts roamed the grounds
to guard, and to hinder, any strangers within the bounds.
News quickly swept the shire, and at Colly's Cocklebur
word was the Squire* was no longer quite so popular.

Misty ~ I'm glad your sweet pound hound found happiness at last with Henry.
Who's a goo-ood boy, who?!
I am afraid his new good manners must disqualify him for employment in my Squire's service--but glad that Henry has found his happiness too!
Whoooz-a-goo-ooodbo-oy?!

Misty ~ I was telling myself I ought not to always be posting at 3a.m. when suddenly I surprised myself by falling asleep.
I didn't mean to leave the solo pilot job to you. Wouldn't it be nice to have some help?

Well, your early 3 am sleep was certainly incredibly productive, Ol' Man Keith, given your terrific poem and funny doggy comments in response to my verse. No problem, starting off the blog--as long as my poem didn't turn everybody off.

Misty, you never disappoint. Whether about Love, requited or "Un" or in this case about a darling doggy (reminiscing about Dusty(?)) you have an audience in us.

OMK has brought us shades of Locksley's greenwood and his jerry men and their constant back and forth with the powers that be. Speaking of...

Did you know Sullivan of Gilbert and, produced a Grand Opera we entitled, wait for it...

IVANHOE.
.

There's an extensive wiki piece Ivanhoe the Opera

Who knew. I wish Gilbert had gotten involved and made it a Musical like what he did so well Apparently, one of the most popular scenes us in Act II with Richard and Friar Tuck.

Here's one of the popular songs from the Opera Ho Jolly Jenkin

Too bad! I was expecting to hear the song, but this is only the lyrics.
Gilbert would surely have taken the Mickey on Ivanhoe. I'm not sure you would have appreciated his treatment.
Arthur Sullivan was quite prolific. Did you know (of course you did!) he wrote the music for "Onward, Christian Soldiers"?

OMK, I Just finished the West End Horror which was a Sherlock Holmes pastiche with Shaw,G&S,Wilde and Irving as characters along with Bram Stoker.

That's when I read that Sullivan and Doyley Carte stole my idea of Ivanhoe put to music

It had 500 productions but not revived.

Wilbur, how kind of you to remember and evoke darling Dusty! Thank you for that.
Also nice to hear your comments on opera.
