“Ye Old Shaggy Line”
It’s time, dear friends, to re-shift to first gear,
on a Sunday in the fore, not the rear of the year.
Once again I’m…
enjoying break time!
Here I’ll raise up a beer in good cheer!
(And, just for ducks, I’ll answer a dare:
No room for “Rabbit”; my shout-out is “Hare!”)

One shouldn't drink tea with wine.
It does something strange to the mind.
It won't get you drunk,
But you'll be in a funk,
Tea and wine won't help you unwind.
Here is a new jigsaw puzzle:
Monkee the cat.

Was desperate. But I'm not complaining

As Sherlock would say "When all the other vowels ...
"Critter Sitters"
Susan's spouse was very charming
and treated her with a house-warming.
Unsure what to give her as a gift,
he first thought he'd buy her a sofa.
But he affirmed as he set his thoughts adrift
that she might really prefer a gopher.
At a glance this gave him a chance
to also give her a minnow to love
along with a dragon and a turtle dove.
And the result of this sweet housewarming
was to set them both up for farming.
(New Years don't start any crazier than this.
Happy New Year, everybody!)
The New Year’s Party Dilemma
The guests were unsure what to bring
As a housewarming gift.
Should they carry a tropical plant
Through the snow adrift,
Or go for a set of mugs equally extravagant
Labelled
“If You Can Think of a Better Fish Pun, Let Minnow”?
One glance at the cellar design
affirmed their decision
To bring wine.
Happy New Year all!
OMK- enjoy your break
Owen- you took the W in the same direction as I did. Thanks for the puzzle. Monkey reminds me of my dear-departed Tabby.
Misty- I agree that the J words today (and the W) were not very conducive to a New Year’s rhyme. And those housewarming gifts are crazy aren’t they. But Susan and her spouse will be happy I hope.
(Do we WC’s accent again to get your gopher to rhyme with sofa?)
BTW- I actually found those mugs for sale online in my search for some way to include that fishy J-word. I couldn’t resist including that pun!
Enjoyed all your comments and versus on this day--the first day of the year 2023.
Remind me where "rabbit, rabbit" comes from and to what it refers? The first day of the month, or the first day of the year? Either way, hope you all have a great one coming up!
Versus? Lousy spelling for a retired English professor.
“Supposedly … you can counter any bad luck by saying “black rabbit” right before you fall asleep [that night] — or 'rabbit, rabbit' spelled backwards, 'tibbar, tibbar,'”
Thank you, Ol' Man Keith and Owen, for wishing us a Happy New Year with your "rabbit rabbit" greeting--and thanks for explaining its origin, Owen.
Sorry, I didn't get to do a Wordle today, Wilbur and CanadianEh!, but it's always nice to see yours--thank you for that too.
Great to see your New Year's verse today, CE!, and I hope your the bottle of wine your guest brought to the party hosts helped make that a great New Year's party.
I'll be enjoying a quiet evening at home, playing with a small 500 piece puzzle (with lots of little dogs) someone sent me as a Christmas gift.
Have a healthy, happy, wonderful 2023, everybody!
