The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

I will gladly pay you Tuesday, for...
"Casting it Aside Today!"
Wimpy couldn't stand his hamburger.
"The damn thing's rancid," he said.
He was known to eat one daily,
but said
he'd settle instead
for lying down dead.

"I've had all I can stand, I can't stands no more!"
He was frustrated for the cast on his wrist he'd wore,
For four long months, was rancid and raw.
On his right side, not a hand, but a claw.

His daily chores , even simple tasks tested his mettle
To toss a ball, to shake a hand, he'd be glad to settle
For partial use of his limb. For that he gladly quaff
A tall cold lager. "Just take the danged thing OFF!"

"Cooking"

Della liked to cook daily,
a habit she practiced gaily.
By her stove she'd stand
while recipes she scanned.
When on her favorite she'd settle
she'd start heating up the kettle.
But sadly the steak was rancid,
something she never fancied.
So in the end some fish she fried
with spinach and rice on the side.
And at last the dinner was cast--
yes, cooking had been a blast.

What a curious batch of poems to start off our day!
I guess it just takes one negative word--in this case "rancid"--to trigger the disgruntled side of our natures. Even Misty's Della had to experience mid-verse discontent before ending up on the "pro-gruntled" side.
Wilbur' piece is surely one of the most serious he has posted here, and not using a novelistic cover.

Yes, you're right, Ol' Man Keith, lots of sadness in the Jumbles this morning, and my heart goes out to Wimpy and the poor man with the broken wrist. Hope they can cheer up later in the day. Wish Della could invite them over for dinner.

I don't see the new Jumble posted for the 16th. I fear Owen may be unable to do it. I hope he has just overslept.
Meanwhile, I'll post my verse "hints" based on the L.A. Times Jumble, digital edition.

"Computing them? Swell!"
Bet your bottom dollar, ya can't per-suede
a soul to overcome the tedium
of counting sheep to get to sleep--
not even a comedian.

Sure, it's worth a laugh to see funny lambs
in their jimmy-jams
balking at stiles.
But counting them will raise more smiles
than lead to slumber
no matter their number.
Sleep never out-weighs sheep
in the comedy on parade!

Shortly after posting the above, the new day appeared!
All's well, it seems, with Owen after all!
